The team partnered with @CDMDePaul to work on their strategy for operating the lights. The students were the ones who came up with the idea of allowing people to text the lights to change the color.
The idea to put the lights on Wabash was strategic: it would attract those who were visiting the Loop and keep people in the Loop in the evening, among other reasons.

Looking down the barrel of one of the light fixtures we’ll use to bring The Wabash Lights to life. Each of these four foot long fixtures contains 40 individual LED nodes that can all be independently controlled to create millions of works of art through color, pattern & movement.
Our mission is to create Chicago’s first interactive public art platform. We are using the “L” – a piece of iconic infrastructure – to build a place where art and technology come together in a canvas of light to foster public discourse and personal expression. #publicart
Last month our mobile, interactive light demo was the backdrop for an underground @sofarsounds concert. These traveling beauties are available to be used at your event, in your window display, or even the lobby of your building.
