Meet George, a performance engineer, working to get the best performance out of the X44 electric race cars. ⚡

When George was young, he didn’t fully know what engineering was and used to confuse it with being a mechanic, after speaking with his brother he realised engineering would give him more options. He studied engineering at GSCE and realised it was more than just fixing things, it was about building things and coming up with new ideas. 💡

George went on to study mechanical engineering at University College London. Where he took part in formula student, an engineering competition that gave real world experience in the motorsport industry.

Today’s announcement that 50,000 more young people will benefit from apprenticeships - helping match skills to local jobs - is a step forward. 🙌

The apprenticeship investment is a welcome opportunity to help more young people, particularly those not in education, employment or training (NEETs) to access local jobs and skilled career pathways. In addition, a new level 4 apprenticeship in AI will be introduced.

Apprenticeships provide early career opportunities for young people direct from school and support the creation of the technician workforce which is critical to engineering industry.

Today is #WorldSoilDay! Meet Ben, design engineer at LettUs Grow who invented a system to grow plants faster, while using less water, fertiliser & zero pesticides.

As an engineer you could work on a variety of agricultural projects. Ben designed a farming method which uses less water, feeds more people and reduces the carbon footprint of farming. 🌧️

Meet Lucy, a product designer who is tackling climate change. Lucy created a biodegradable plastic using fish waste and algae, to help reduce single-use plastic waste. 🐟

Lucy now plans to make MarinaTex, her biodegradable plastic, on a large scale to help reduce plastic entering our oceans. 🌊

Lucy was lead into engineering while doing a project at university while studying product design.
