That bad call❓
CHILL OUT
That coaching decision ❓
GET OVER IT
The years fly by faster than you even know, and if you’re so strung out, angry, upset, disgruntled over every little issue, you will eventually regret not being thankful for what you had in the moment. They get to play A GAME THEY LOVE! You should cherish the short period of time watching them play, and embrace the life lessons that playing the game teaches them!
❕Change your perspective and be thankful, trust me, it will make everything better 🙏🏽

A baseball coach, and dad, asked me during Baseball Office Hours;
"What is the most helpful tools in strengthening your mindset?"
Heres how I responded:
🧵
One of the biggest tools that strengthened my mindset as a player was creating a personal mission statement.
My coach at UCLA used to tell us:
“You cannot outperform your self-image.”
That always stuck with me.
Because a lot of players slowly start tying their confidence to:
- batting average
- errors
- strikeouts
- playing time
- opinions of coaches
- recruiting
So one bad game…
and their confidence collapses.
That’s a dangerous way to play baseball.
So...
Here’s the 5-step process I used as a player, and what I now teach my hitters:
Step 1:
Write down “I am” statements.
Examples:
- I am valuable.
- I am confident.
- I am built for this.
- I am an all-star.
Why?
Because a lot of players constantly repeat negative labels to themselves without realizing it.
“I’m not good enough.”
“I always fail.”
“I can’t hit velocity.”
Over time, players start believing those identities.
Step 2:
Write down “I will” statements.
Examples:
- I will become a major league player.
- I will respond well to failure.
- I will compete with confidence.
- I will keep improving.
Why?
Because your mind needs direction.
Players without vision usually let fear, emotions, and failure control their focus.
Step 3:
List every fear, doubt, insecurity, or weakness you have.
Then write the opposite statement to combat it.
If I doubted myself…
I wrote confidence.
If I feared failure…
I wrote courage.
If I questioned my future…I wrote belief.
Why?
Because ignored thoughts don’t disappear.
They usually grow louder under pressure.
Step 4:
Create reset statements for adversity.
When I made an error or failed during a game, I already had statements ready so negative thoughts didn’t spiral.
Why?
Because baseball failure is inevitable.
Players who don’t learn how to reset emotionally usually carry one bad moment into the next at-bat, inning, or game.
Step 5:
Read it every single day.
I even recorded myself saying it so I could constantly hear it.
I also added pictures and visualized myself becoming the player I wanted to become.
I wanted my mind focused on where I was going…not the fears, doubts, or failures trying to pull me backwards.
Why?
Because repetition builds belief.
Eventually your mind starts believing what you repeatedly feed it.
Over time, this became a mindset tool I could use to:
- reset after failure
- combat negative thoughts
- stay confident under pressure
- strengthen my self-image
- refocus during adversity
If you thought this was helpful, please share it so more players, parents, and coaches can get help too.
If you get out and automatically think something's wrong with your swing, you have been misled to believe that hitting success is all about mechanics-STOP IT!
👉🏼Recognize that you’ve been duped and brainwashed
👉🏼Start working more on approach, plan, pitch recognition, pitch selection, mentality, vision, quicker reaction, decision making, controlling pressure and anxiety, timing, seeing faster speeds and nastier movements in daily BP, studying pitcher tendencies, etc
👉🏼This will build your confidence, improve your in-game mentality and approach, and ultimately get you out of the mental mechanical jail that won’t allow you to fully compete at your best!

When I ask hitters what their main on-field struggles are, 99% of the time the answer is something mechanical. THIS GENERATION IS SO MISLED ABOUT HITTING! It’s like a mental illness when all you do is blame bad hitting results on the swing itself!
