WORD OF THE WEEK:
Colony-forming Unit /ˈkälənē fôrmiNG ˈyo͞onət/
Unit used in microbiology to estimate the number of viable bacteria or fungal cells in a sample, that is, whether it's able to multiply via binary fission under controlled conditions.

WORD OF THE WEEK:
Clincal Trial /ˈklinək(ə)l ˈtrī(ə)l/
Experiments done in clinical research designed to answer specific questions about biomedical interventions, including new treatments and known interventions that warrant further study and comparison.

#clinical #research

WORD OF THE WEEK:
Multipotent /ˈməltēˌpōtnt/
Progenitor cells which have the gene activation potential to differentiate into discrete cell types. Hematopoietic stem cells, neuronal stem cells, mesenchymal stem cells are examples of multipotent cells.

#multipotent #stemcells

[TissueLabs @tissuelabs]

WORD OF THE WEEK:
Messenger RNA (mRNA) /ˈmes(ə)njər RNA/
A single-stranded molecule of RNA, created during the process of transcription, that corresponds to the genetic sequence of a gene and is read by a ribosome in the process of synthesizing a protein.

Do you know where we are located? You'd probably say Brazil, and it's not completely wrong, we still have an office in Brazil.

But we're glad to announcing that we are moving our headquarters to Switzerland!

WORD OF THE WEEK:
Tissue Engineering (TE) /ˈtiSHo͞o ˌenjəˈniriNG/
Use of a combination of cells, biomaterials, and suitable biochemical and physicochemical factors to create new viable tissues. TE aims to replace or repair damaged organs and tissues.

#tissueengineerinig

[TissueLabs @tissuelabs]

WORD OF THE WEEK:
Bioink /ˈbīōiNGk/
Material used to produce artificial living tissues using 3D bioprinting. These inks are mostly composed of the cells combined with biomaterials that envelope the cells.

[TissueLabs @tissuelabs]

WORD OF THE WEEK:
Mitochondria /ˌmīdəˈkändrēən/
Organelle found in large numbers in most cells, in which the biochemical processes of respiration and energy production occur. It has a double membrane, the inner layer being folded inward to form layers.

#mitochondria #organelle

[TissueLabs @tissuelabs]

WORD OF THE WEEK:
Stromal Cells /ˈstrōməl sel/
Connective tissue cells of any organ, for example in the uterine mucosa, prostate, bone marrow, lymph node and the ovary. They are cells that support the function of the parenchymal cells of that organ.

#stromal #cell #biotech

[TissueLabs @tissuelabs]

WORD OF THE WEEK:
Cytotoxicity /ˌsīdəˈtäksikiˈsidē/
The quality of being toxic to cells. Examples of toxic agents are an immune cell or some types of venom, e.g. from the puff adder or brown recluse spider.

#cytotoxicity #venom #toxic

[TissueLabs @tissuelabs]

WORD OF THE WEEK:
Immunotherapy /ˌimyo͝onōˈTHerəpē/
Treatment of diseases by activating or suppressing the immune system. It is classified into activation immunotherapy and suppression immunotherapy.

#biology #transcription

[TissueLabs @tissuelabs]

WORD OF THE WEEK:
Induced Pluripotent Stem (iPS) Cell /iPS sel/
Type of pluripotent stem cell that can be generated directly from a somatic cell. IPS cells represent a single source of cells that could be used to replace those lost to damage or disease.
