On 1 March, I completed my assignment as EU Special Envoy for Afghanistan. I am grateful for the opportunity to have served in this function at a critical time and to Afghans I met, counterparts and colleagues for support, cooperation, friendship and, when justified, criticism.

My departure does not signal any change in the EU’s approach to Afghanistan. The EU maintains its presence in the country, a commitment to the people of Afghanistan while protecting EU interests and values, and engages with Afghanistan and partners based on Council Conclusions.

🇪🇺🇹🇯 The sides discussed the developments in the region, the critical situation in Afghanistan, emphasizing the importance of regional stability and security, as well as ways forward.

Our visit to Dushanbe also provided an opportunity for meetings with FM Muhriddin and other senior interlocutors on #Afghanistan.
