Friday night, September 11, 2026, I was back at Kansas for the Kansas vs. Missouri game. Although my Jayhawks didn’t get the win on the field, we won a much bigger battle on the Hill that day.

During the tailgate, I noticed a young man choking with something lodged in his throat. I immediately stepped in and performed the Heimlich maneuver. Thankfully, what was blocking his airway came out, and he was able to breathe again.

Football has given me some unforgettable moments at Kansas, but being in the right place at the right time to help save someone’s life puts everything into perspective. Some victories are bigger than the scoreboard.

I’m now trying to locate this young man and make sure he’s doing well. If you know who he is, or if you were there and witnessed what happened, please reach out to me or share this post until it reaches him.
