I had the opportunity to speak at a conference organised by London School of Economics to speak alongside Judith Butler. I received a standing ovation for my intervention which obviously is b/c of all my comrades collective wisdom which taught me everything I know. A snippet.
Attending and speaking at the SVRI Forum 2026, it is one of the largest global platforms for GBV research, evidence building and activism. I have a session with refugee women leaders to discuss and share about the access to justice for refugee and displaced communities in the absence of state recognition, on 7th October and if you’re here would love to connect.

Imperialism is a structure of power and structures are not symmetrical. The US controls the dollar system, the sanctions architecture, the visa regime, the international financial institutions, and a global network of military bases. When a Southern state defies that order, it pays in frozen assets, blocked trade, inflation, isolation, and the constant threat of force. Those costs also fall on ordinary people. Treating all state behavior as morally interchangeable erases who holds the leverage and who absorbs the punishment.
It is sad to see a flattened analysis by some that equate US with China and funnily also Iran. I wonder for these people what shapes what feels sayable? A politics that costs nothing and is rewarded by the western institutions, deserves suspicion. Anti-imperialism has real costs. It is not a video, a thread, or a well-formatted essay, and it doesn't have to feel good.
Part of the problem is a lens that can only recognize resistance when it looks secular and liberal. Some of the most consequential anti-imperial politics in the Global South has come in religious or non-liberal forms. If your framework can't read that, it's a limit of the framework, not proof that the resistance isn't real.
None of this means silence on repression but somehow there has been deafening silence about the imperialist sanctions and a weaponisation of identity politics. A state can resist a hegemon and still answer for how it treats women, minorities, and dissidents. Both things can be true however what time you choose to do it matters! If it only and especially comes up when Iran is the ONLY country which has taken a stand against imperialism today and the war on Gaza then your secular western bias is peeking through. Criticize Iran's domestic record, and China's debt leverage, if the evidence supports it. But do it without pretending the scale of power is equal, and without letting "both sides" quietly land on the side of the strongest empire at a time when the imperial violence is at its absolute worst.

A 28-year-old woman, Nabila Shaheen, was murdered and found buried in a pit following an alleged property dispute with her in-laws. Police have arrested the primary suspect—her brother-in-law Waseem—and successfully rescued her two minor daughters, aged 4 and 1, preventing further tragedy.
Raids are ongoing to apprehend four other accomplices, including her mother-in-law. Tragically in June Nabeela had filed a complaint with the police saying her husband had gone missing and accusing her in laws of torturing her physically as well as threatening her.

This is never ending but the deafening silence from the authorities is painful. This is how the women of the country are betrayed. Our lives and dignity has no value here.
Absolutely shameful. This is probably the 3rd case of a foreigner visitor being r*ped in Pakistan in the recent years. There is an endemic of sexual violence in the country which must be taken very seriously.
