After releasing a well-received demo and a split, the US death/doom metal band Besotten are all set to unleash their debut full-length album which they have meticulously worked on for the past few years. They play death/doom metal that is beautifully balanced, with the proper elements of both the styles getting highlighted at the right moments. The music is immeasurably heavy yet remarkably nuanced, effortlessly carrying expressive ability along with all its ponderous weight. The five songs on this album are a mix of short ones as well as those exceeding 10 minutes, and are rather diverse with each song having its own identity while maintaining an overall cohesive sound. In comparison to the other bands out there, Besotten's music is more structured and fleshed out, amplifying all the best elements of this style, and remaining delectably crushing and foul.

Swedish death metal fiends Cryptorium return with their sophomore and most ambitious release yet. They splashed onto the scene with a rambunctious debut, "Descent into Lunacy," and this release takes their music to the next level. They've done their homework and churn out the best kind of Swedish death metal paying homage to the elder ones while adding their own layer of grime and filth to it. It's ugly, nasty, raw and just how it was meant to be. Few bands these days are able to come up with the classic kind of death metal music without dampening it with too many melodies or making it sound too clean; Cryptorium on the other hand, go all the way and do it convincingly and with the right spirit and intent. This is gnarly, in-your-face, competently executed Swedish death metal with substance and rot. It's not to be missed.
