A huge thank you to the emergency responders, railway teams and local volunteers who supported passengers following the derailment in Lewes on 13 August.
Rail Minister Lord Peter Hendy met those involved yesterday, recognising their professionalism, dedication, and community spirit.
Thousands of quality new homes are set to be built near train, tram and underground stations, helping families stay connected to work, school and public transport.
New planning rules will speed up house building around transport hubs and make better use of underused land, creating jobs, connecting communities, and boosting growth.
We understand the frustration when trains operate with fewer carriages than planned. 🚆
That’s why we’re rolling out 90 new SWR trains, with 53 already in service, helping to reduce the number of short trains by 26% year-on-year.
It’s another step towards a more unified railway that passengers can rely on and be proud of.
Officers are currently on scene at Wickford railway station in Essex following reports that the rear carriages of a train have derailed in an upright position at 2.12pm today.
We’re responding alongside paramedics and the fire service. There are currently no reported injuries.
RAIB inspectors continue to gather evidence at the site of yesterday's derailment at Lewes. RAIB will conduct a full, independent safety investigation into the accident. We will provide a further update next week once we know more #Lewes#EastSussex
.@BTP has confirmed two people sustained serious injuries and a further nine have less serious injuries. Everyone on the train has been safely removed from the service.
My thoughts remain with those affected and my continued thanks go to the emergency services and rail partners who have worked so hard to support everyone involved. @raibgovuk has deployed inspectors to the site.

Deeply concerned of reports of a derailment involving a Southern train in Lewes, Sussex.
Grateful to emergency services who are on the scene supporting those impacted.
