Costa Rica is well known for its rich biodiversity, including trees, which comprise around 25% of all vascular plants. Over the last 5 years Nelson Zamora has been involved in the assessment of Costa Rican trees, with over 80% now assessed.
@GTA_GTSG is mobilising conservation action and planning to protect species. In Colombia 7 species of threatened Magnolia have been included in the designation of 5 different Key Biodiversity Areas.

Trees endemic to island archipelagos are assessed on the @IUCNRedList for the first time, including trees from Juan Fernandez, Pitcairn and French Polynesia. Tropical island trees are at high risk from invasive species.
