Sierra William spoke twice at the UN Expert Mechanism on Indigenous Rights, addressing Canada’s gaps in UNDRIP implementation and calling for direct Indigenous participation at the UN. Sierra & Dakota also opened a side event with song and met with Canada’s UN ambassador.

Two Tŝilhqot’in youth, Sierra William and Dakota Diablo, are representing our Nation this week at the UN in Geneva for EMRIP, advocating for Indigenous rights. Today, Dakota addressed EMRIP on protecting Teẑtan Biny and the right to free, prior & informed consent.

The Tŝilhqot’in Nation has reached a historic
agreement with the BC and Taseko Mines that resolves the long-standing conflict at Teẑtan Biny (Fish Lake) by requiring the consent of the Tŝilhqot’in Nation for any mining activity in the area.

Yesterday marked the 10th anniversary of the historic Tŝilhqot’in Decision, a pivotal moment that recognized the Tŝilhqot’in Nation's Aboriginal title. We celebrated this milestone and reaffirmed our commitment to reconciliation, respect, and partnership with Indigenous Peoples.
