The #1 reason we have a student loan crisis in America is because government got into the student loan business.
The problem and how to fix it ⬇️⬇️⬇️
Banks won’t give you a loan unless they think you’ll be able to pay them back one day. The US government doesn’t operate that way. They don’t calculate to see if your degree is likely to make enough $ to pay them back. They just give you the $.
This was meant to be empowering so *everyone* could afford college but this "compassionate tool" led to REALLY bad outcomes as faux compassion often does. For instance: A bank doing the math would never approve a loan for someone majoring in gender studies for $45,000 per year. The US government would approve it though.
This led to a crisis of worthless degrees and with all that guaranteed money, every university got fat and greedy. They know that basically everyone can get a loan no matter how stupid their area of study is. So what did these left wing elitist snobs do? They of course raised tuition, often yearly, at extraordinary multiples society has never seen before.
Then when young people can’t afford a home or a family, the fat cats in academia blame working class Americans for not funding so called "free college" and "debt forgiveness". Free just means everyone else pays for it. The fact some still don’t understand that is mind blowing. There is no money tree… Productive members of society are treated like the money tree.
It’s all a scam. Yes, the social contract is broken. Yes, we need a new one. Yes, a great fraud was perpetrated by academia and the government. So what do we do now? Here’s the most painless and responsible way out of the crisis:
• Take the government out of the student loan business altogether.
• Return to merit based loan systems where the math has to make sense to get a loan.
• Cancel all of the interest on existing student loans where government was involved. Make the students pay the principal back.
• Force all universities to be financially responsible for loans they encourage kids to take.
• Limit undergrad and grad school borrowing to put downward pressure on tuitions at major universities.
• Force colleges to offer clear information about the how long and how much a student will likely be paying AND show them the average $ they’re likely to make if they graduate in that field of study.
• Tie student loan payments to a maximum % of their income.
If we do all of these things, we’ll see over time that tuitions go down, outcomes for career and $$ are better for students and the government spends less money. Wokeness will also shrink as a byproduct of worthless degrees no longer being subsidized by taxpayers.
Do you agree or disagree and what would you add to fix this problem?
To restore America to greatness, we need the dream of a family, a good education and a home to be possible again. This sets us on the right path imo.
Today's weather is not bad for playing golf. The temperature is now 25 degrees Celsius and the weather conditions are cloudy. Overall, though, it's a good day for playing golf. Remember to bring your clubs and enjoy an enjoyable game!
