After carefully looking at Atiku Abubakar’s, @atiku proposal on reversing the hardship caused by subsidy removal, I believe the conversation should go beyond politics and focus on one important question: How has the removal of subsidy improved the lives of ordinary Nigerians?

Atiku’s position, as I understand it, is fundamentally about restoring the purchasing power of Nigerians and reducing the unbearable cost of living. His proposed intervention should not be viewed as a return to the old, unclear and corruption-ridden subsidy regime, but as an opportunity to develop a more targeted, transparent and accountable system that protects Nigerians while supporting domestic production and refining.

I believe that if implemented, the economic impact will be felt across all social classes.

For the vulnerable, cheaper energy and transportation could help reduce the daily pressure of rising food prices and movement costs.

For the working class, it could mean more disposable income, as a larger portion of their salaries would no longer be swallowed by transportation and energy expenses.

For students and young people, lower transportation costs could make education, job hunting and small-scale businesses more affordable.

For farmers, cheaper fuel could reduce the cost of transporting agricultural produce from farms to markets, potentially helping to reduce food inflation.

For small and medium-scale businesses, especially those dependent on petrol and diesel generators, lower energy costs could reduce production expenses, encourage expansion and help protect jobs.

For the middle class and investors, improved purchasing power could stimulate demand for goods and services, strengthen businesses and create a more active economy.

My reason is simple: an economy cannot grow sustainably when the majority of its citizens have lost their purchasing power. When transportation, energy and food consume almost everything people earn, businesses struggle, consumption falls and poverty expands.

Nigeria needs an economic model that does not merely celebrate government savings on paper while citizens experience increasing hardship in their daily lives.

Economic reforms should put money back into the productive lives of Nigerians, not simply remove money from their pockets.

I hereby endorse Atiku’s subsidy reversal proposal because we cannot continue to suffer while those in government continue to live luxurious lifestyles and keep telling Nigerians to endure pain and hardship without providing a clear timeframe for when things will improve.

Nigerians deserve relief. Nigerians deserve purchasing power. Nigerians deserve an economy that works for the people, irrespective of their social class.

As such, @Ubando001 is inviting Nigerians to support Atiku and join the movement to restore economic dignity, hope and our national pride as Nigerians.

My dear Francis, thank you for taking the time to truly understand what I am proposing. That means a great deal to me.

I am not restoring subsidy so that Nigeria can keep paying for imported petrol. I am restoring subsidy so that Nigerians can produce more at home, pay less for fuel, and keep more money in their pockets.

That is the difference between import subsidy and production subsidy.

Think about shoes. If government wants Nigerians to buy shoes more cheaply, it can spend public money making imported shoes cheaper, or it can support shoemakers in Aba to reduce their production costs so they can make more shoes here, employ more Nigerians and sell at more affordable prices.

I choose the Aba shoemaker.

I will do the same with fuel. We will support crude refined in Nigeria so our refineries can produce at a lower cost and you can pay less.

But for me, this is bigger than fuel.

I want the bus fare you pay every morning to come down. I want the cost of taking food from the farm to the market to come down. I want the trader to spend less. I want the barber, tailor, welder and small business owner to spend less on energy.

I want a mother to return from the market with more food in her bag.

I want a father to pay transport and still have something left in his pocket.

I want a small business owner to close for the day with profit, not just enough money to buy fuel for tomorrow.

That is what affordability means to me.

Less money spent on fuel.
Less money spent on transport.
Less pressure on food prices.
More money left for your family.

My promise is personal: I want you to feel relief in your pocket, in your home and in your daily life.

I will make life affordable again.

I will make Nigeria affordable again.

@OPay_NG has also moved to protect and redeem its name and integrity. I think both sides need to come back to the round table and settle this matter. All these media threats will not work, even if your post generate 1 million impressions, may not get her out of this mess.

@OPay_NG has tens of millions of customers who are not even on X. So, brother, these threats are not the best way to go about this.
