Great news for California students: the Affordable Housing Bond now includes $175 million for student housing at @UofCalifornia campuses.
We're grateful to our state leaders and the UC community, whose advocacy helped secure this critical investment.

At UCOP, summer starts with the Pride Ice Cream Social. Across the University and everywhere, we have a responsibility to build and protect an environment where everyone feels respected, valued, and supported. Celebrating Pride Month is an essential part of that commitment. Happy Pride!
Though some actions by the federal government have been temporarily stayed by courts, @UofCalifornia's federal research funding remains in significant peril. Fortunately, California State Senator @Scott_Wiener recognized this danger and introduced Senate Bill 895 in January. This bipartisan legislation would place a $12 billion research bond on California’s November 2026 ballot and is designed to create a long-term funding pool that researchers could access over time.
The state legislature only has a few weeks left to decide if SB 895 will be on the November ballot. Their decision will have enormous consequences. Our state has the opportunity to send a clear message: We will not let the most successful research and innovation engine in the history of the world be destroyed.
We need UC graduates in the world today more than ever. I know they will meet our shared challenges and opportunities with energy, with innovation, and with humanity. Congratulations, Class of 2026, and Fiat Lux.
California communities need more affordable housing, and UC students should be included in the solution. Now’s the time to ask the #CALeg to add @UofCalifornia to the Affordable Housing Bond Act of 2026 and help expand access to affordable housing across our campuses.
Lawmakers are considering one of the biggest affordable housing investments in decades, but UC is currently excluded from the proposal. Tell #CALeg to include the @UofCalifornia system in the Affordable Housing Bond Act of 2026. https://t.co/fV6xCo9Y1o
I recently sat down with @UCLAchancellor Julio Frenk for a wide-ranging conversation: navigating a turbulent year for @UCLA, the future of higher ed as a lifelong model, AI, the 2028 Summer Games in LA, and the family story that shaped his leadership.
Since its founding in 1868, the University of California has matched our nation’s revolutionary spirit. With boundless curiosity and educational opportunities, UC fuels the research and discoveries that make life better for all Americans.

Another highlight of the week: meeting with Vice Chancellors from @UofCalifornia campuses who work every day to expand educational access, retention, and completion for students of all backgrounds from across the state. UC is a public good that should benefit everyone. As we build confidence in higher education, we have to remember that.
What makes UC special is all the ways our students, faculty, and alumni make a difference. Last week, we focused on scientific and medical research. This week, it’s journalism, as four @UofCalifornia alums from @ucbsoj and @ucsantabarbara take home @PulitzerPrizes. Congrats to them on their extraordinary achievements.
