UEGCL Participates in MEMD Exhibition and Thanksgiving Ceremony in Butebo.
UEGCL was honoured to participate in the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development (MEMD) exhibition and Thanksgiving Ceremony held in Butebo District and hosted by the Minister of Energy and Mineral Development, Hon. Dr. Monica Musenero Masanza.
The Guest of Honour, the Prime Minister Rt. Hon. Robinah Nabbanja, encouraged the community to embrace high-value agricultural enterprises and value addition as a means of improving household incomes and livelihoods. She further highlighted the importance of utilising skills development centre established by the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development, particularly in light of the expanded access to electricity in the area.
Karuma Launches Phase II of Life Jacket Campaign 🦺
UEGCL has handed over life jackets to fishing communities in Kiryandongo and Oyam, host districts of the 600MW Karuma Hydropower Plant.
Witnessed by Kiryandongo RDC Dan Muganga, the initiative promotes water safety and encourages fishermen to prioritize their safety while on the water.
Together with local leaders, UEGCL continues to promote safer livelihoods in communities around our areas of operation.

Isimba launches Phase II of its Life Jacket Campaign
Today, UEGCL rolled out the 2nd Phase of the Isimba Life Jacket Initiative, distributing Life-Jackets to the fishing communities around the 183 MW Plant in Kayunga.
Implemented in partnership with the Local leadership, this public safety campaign reinforces our commitment to promoting safer livelihoods for communities neighbouring our areas of operations.

UEGCL Board Concludes Plant Familiarisation Visits
The UEGCL Board of Directors, led by Chairperson Eng. Dr. Florence Lubwama Kiyimba, has concluded its plant familiarisation visits with a tour of Maziba Dam.
The visit included a briefing on the planned rehabilitation works at Maziba Dam and a benchmarking visit to the 6.5 MW Muvumbe Hydropower Plant, providing an opportunity to exchange insights on hydropower operations and long-term asset management.
The visits undertaken under the Board’s 100-Day Plan, strengthen oversight and deepen the Board’s understanding of UEGCL’s generation assets and operational priorities.

Karuma HPP Partners with Kiryandongo Hospital for Community Health Outreach.
In collaboration with Kiryandongo Hospital, Karuma Hydropower Plant yesterday concluded a two-day health sensitization and screening exercise focused on infectious disease prevention and control.
The exercise involved screening for HIV, Hepatitis B, Syphilis, Tuberculosis, Sickle Cell Anaemia, and Malaria for staff, contractors, and the surrounding community. The team also provided biomedical technologies for infectious disease prevention, including medicines, testing services, and psychosocial care. This initiative is part of our commitment to ensuring good health and safe living within our workforce and host communities.

Today, the UEGCL Board of Directors (BoD), led by the Chairperson Eng. Dr. Florence Lubwama Kiyimba, together with Top Management led by the Chief Executive Officer Dr. Eng. Harrison E. Mutikanga, visited the 600MW Karuma Hydropower Plant in Kiryandongo district
The visit was aimed at familiarizing the BoD with the plant. The BoD received updates on plant operations and maintenance. They also met with the Owner’s Engineer, and the Contractor for more updates on plant performance.
The BoD commended staff for their dedication and commitment to ensuring reliable and safe electricity generation. The team later conducted a guided tour of the plant facilities.
