To meet the growing electricity demand within the Kampala Metropolitan Area, the Uganda Electricity Transmission Company Limited (@uetcl ) is currently undertaking the upgrade of the existing Kampala North–Lugogo 132kV transmission line by replacing the old conductors with higher-capacity ones capable of carrying more power to UEDCL substations.
This strategic network enhancement is aimed at strengthening the reliability, stability, and quality of electricity supply across Kampala. The upgrade will increase power transfer capacity, support the region's rapid urbanization, industrial growth, and expanding business activities, while improving overall network performance.

Today @NankabirwaRS concluded a two-day inspection of the Kampala Metropolitan Transmission System Improvement Project covering Bujagali, Mukono, Namungoona, Mutundwe and Maya substations.
On my day 2 of the Kampala Metropolitan Transmission System Improvement Project site inspections, I reaffirmed Government’s commitment to strategic energy infrastructure that supports industrialization, economic transformation and national development through reliable and efficient electricity supply.
I commend @uetcl, contractors and project teams for the steady progress registered under the Kampala Metropolitan Transmission System Improvement Project and emphasized the importance of timely delivery of all project components.
I call upon Ugandans to protect national transmission infrastructure by remaining vigilant and reporting acts of vandalism, noting that safeguarding electricity infrastructure is a shared national responsibility essential for sustaining power reliability, attracting investment and supporting Uganda’s long-term development agenda.
Today during my inspection of the substations under the @jica_direct_en -supported initiative, I assessed progress on key infrastructure designed to improve grid stability, operational efficiency and system resilience within the metropolitan transmission corridor. The ongoing Kampala Metropolitan Transmission System Improvement Project demonstrates Government’s deliberate focus on strengthening the backbone of Uganda’s electricity network to meet present and future demand.
These investments will significantly minimise outages, improve power evacuation from generation plants and enhance the reliability of supply to industrial parks, commercial centres and domestic consumers. Reliable electricity infrastructure is not only essential for economic growth, but also for attracting investment, supporting job creation and advancing Uganda’s broader industrialisation agenda under Vision 2040 and the Ten-Fold Growth Strategy.
