Great to see the IFRC Disaster Response Emergency Fund (DREF) supporting the people of Indonesia through the @palangmerah response to drought.
The UK is proud to be a longstanding contributor to the DREF, a life-saving humanitarian fund. Supporting the IFRC’s Disaster Emergency Fund means we can channel funding quickly to local humanitarian responders when a crisis hits.
Indonesia is facing a prolonged drought after months of below-average rainfall, affecting access to water across large parts of the country, including Java, Bali, Nusa Tenggara, Sumatra, Kalimantan and Sulawesi.
Through an @IFRC_DREF operation, the Indonesian Red Cross @palangmerah aims to support 200,000 people over six months by helping communities maintain access to safe water, reducing water-, heat- and haze-related health risks, and strengthening local response capacities across 20 drought-affected provinces, with targeted health support in Papua.
You’ve heard of the UN in Geneva, but did you know there’s a major UN hub right here in Asia?

This year, the UK joined Super Garuda Shield 2026 with a focus on the Cyber Exercise (CYBEREX). A team of five from the Royal Navy's Cyber Defence Operations, we worked alongside partners at SESKO TNI in Bandung from 31 August to 11 September.
With 13 countries participating, from Indonesia to the UK, the US, Singapore, Australia, and beyond, CYBEREX 2026 tested how we respond to cyber threats against critical digital infrastructure. Together, we strengthened coordination, interoperability, and resilience in the cyber domain.
This is more than an exercise, it's about building stronger international defence cooperation and pushing forward the UK-Indonesia Strategic Partnership.

In his Independence Day address, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Russia made one fundamental mistake in its plans for Ukraine: it underestimated the Ukrainian people.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy also highlighted the courage of Ukraine’s defenders, the resilience of Ukrainian society, the growing strength of our defence industry, and the need for continued international support.
"Over these 35 years, we have heard many predictions about ourselves. And almost all of them proved wrong. They said the state would not make it, that we would not withstand the upheavals. And on February 24, they said we would hold out for only a matter of days. But we have held out all this time – all this time of the war for independence," he stressed.
"We are all human. We all want to live through times that are not historic, but simply quiet, peaceful, safe times. In a peaceful Ukraine. A Ukraine that made it. That stood its ground. That preserved itself and its independence. That is what we are fighting for."
