The CCL is proud to share a practical resource developed to support parents, guardians, and caregivers in securing children’s constitutional right to basic education in South Africa.
This booklet affirms a clear legal principle that every child has the right to attend school, regardless of documentation, nationality, or immigration status, as guaranteed by Section 29 of the Constitution and confirmed by our courts.
Beyond stating the law, the guide equips caregivers with:
✔️ Clear and accessible legal guidance
✔️ Practical tools to respond to unlawful refusals of admission
✔️ Step-by-step action plans to advocate effectively for children excluded from schooling
Too often, children are denied access to education due to administrative barriers that are unlawful and unconstitutional. This guide is about empowerment, accountability, and ensuring that no child is left behind.

Parents who cannot afford school fees at a fee-charging school 🏫 have the right to ask the school for a fee exemption. 📝
A parent who is given a school fee exemption does not have to pay the fees, 💸 or will only have to pay part of the fees. 💰 You have the right demand the fee exemption form. #SofundaSonke ✊🏾
