This week, the United States met with G7+ partners in Geneva to discuss the current situation in Afghanistan and underscored our unwavering support for the Afghan people. https://t.co/qjNHgjNrnL

[Secretary Antony Blinken @SecBlinken]

The U.S. condemns the Taliban's discriminatory edicts, which jeopardize the rights and lives of Afghan women and girls. Women’s full, equal, and meaningful participation in society is not merely a matter of equality; it is essential. We resolutely support Afghan women and girls.

[US4AfghanPeace @US4AfghanPeace]

Inclusive & equitable access to education is critical to unlocking opportunities for a prosperous Afghanistan. To expand access to high-quality education for Afghan youths, especially girls who have been banned from obtaining an education beyond the 6th grade, @USAID & @EAA_Foundation are supporting the enrollment of 100,000+ children and nearly 2,000 post-secondary scholarships. #EducationforAll https://t.co/l2UlwX31h7

[USAID Afghanistan Mission Director, Joel Sandefur @USAIDAfgMD]

Thrilled to announce a Framework Agreement between @EAA_Foundation and @USAID! This partnership marks a significant step towards advancing education for Afghan children and youth, ensuring every child has the opportunity to learn, thrive, and dream big. #EducationForAll

[U.S. Special Envoy Rina Amiri @SE_AfghanWGH]

These egregious edicts constitute systemic gender persecution & threaten the safety and well-being of all Afghans. The Taliban’s policies and relentless edicts make clear that they have no intention of respecting Afghanistan's international obligations. This pattern reinforces the argument that engagement, without prioritization of human rights and inclusion of Afghans, is unlikely to address Afghan and international demands. (2/2)

[U.S. Special Envoy Rina Amiri @SE_AfghanWGH]

In the last three years, defying Afghan demands and international pressure, the Taliban have adopted progressively extreme gender discriminatory policies, eliminating female agency, productivity, mobility, education, participation in public space, access to protection mechanisms, and even the ability to speak in public. This new policy banning women from medical institutes threatens to complete the erasure of women by depriving them of access to health services, including maternal and life-saving medical care. It is inhumane and logic defying to prevent the emergence of women health practitioners & prohibit women & girls from being treated by male doctors. This policy has an impact on every mother, every unborn infant—boys and girls—and the very future of Afghanistan. (1/2)

Last night, @StateDept honored the partnerships that resettled over 180,000 Afghan allies since August 2021. These strong and enduring partnerships provide hope and stability to families facing unimaginable challenges. Together, we uphold our values of humanity and solidarity.

The United States strongly condemns the terrorist attack by a suicide bomber in Kabul on Monday. Our hearts are with the injured and with those who lost their loved ones. There can be no justification for targeting the innocent.

(1/2) The Taliban’s ban against UN Special Rapporteur Richard Bennett visiting Afghanistan and the recent alarming vice and virtue decree continue to make clear the Taliban are doubling down on the extreme policies they imposed in the 1990s.

My thoughts and prayers are with Ryan Corbett, Mahmood Habibi, and their families today. We will and we must continue every effort to bring them and George Glezmann home to their families.

Pleasure to host Uzbekistan’s NSC Deputy Chairman Kamilov and Special Presidential Envoy for Afghanistan Irgashev in Washington to discuss abundant shared interests and the road ahead in Afghanistan.
