The #NATOSummit starts on July 7 in Ankara. Next month’s pivotal meeting will serve as a progress report on the 5% defense commitment. Under POTUS's leadership, Allies are moving beyond commitments and returning NATO to its warfighting roots.
Great to meet with Defense Minister Dilan Yeşilgöz-Zegerius and visit Netherlands-based defense tech companies yesterday. Integrated industrial bases across NATO territory are essential for production at scale and lower costs. Allied innovation and secure semiconductor supply chains reinforce our defense industrial base in the Alliance, including in the United States.
It was a pleasure to address U.S. and German defense leaders in Munich alongside General Donahue at #TDIAF2026. Also had the honor of meeting with State Secretary Hilmers and Head of the Bavarian State Chancellery Florian Herrmann.
Our industrial bases are increasingly integrating to deliver capabilities and enhance lethality and readiness. Germany’s continued progress toward the 5% defense investment goal demonstrates that credible deterrence is built on a robust industrial base.
2/2 Ahead of the #NATOSummit 2026, Allied investment will boost the U.S. defense industry and create jobs for the American worker. Strengthening the industrial base on both sides of the Atlantic helps NATO Allies meet their 5% goal, so they can finally take ownership of the conventional defense of Europe.
1/2 Thank you to the 50+ 🇺🇸 business leaders who joined the Transatlantic Defense Industry Access Forum 2026 in Munich, Germany. Today's security challenges require @NATO Allies to invest 5% of GDP for defense; American ingenuity, speed, and industrial cooperation can turn these investments into real, cutting-edge capabilities.
Yesterday, alongside State Secretary Nils Hilmer from the German Federal Ministry of Defence, I saw firsthand the success of U.S.-German defense cooperation in building complex weapon systems. By merging state-of-the-art expertise, Allied co-production strengthens supply chains, expands capacity, and accelerates delivery to our warfighters.
Proud to stand with the elite troops at U.S. Army Garrison Bavaria and the 7th Army Training Command, who are a powerhouse for ensuring readiness for all American forces in Europe. It was an honor to meet with our troops who are testing game-changing tech to keep America safer. Godspeed in your mission!
Marked 82 years since D-Day with reverence and gratitude. That day and those that followed turned the tide against tyranny and changed the course of history. We owe a great debt to the patriots who gave so much in freedom’s name.
Honored to have joined Secretary Hegseth and other senior leaders to remember and reflect upon the sacrifices of those who fought and died in Normandy to defend the free world.
Eighty-two years ago, Allied forces stormed the beaches of Normandy into the hell of war — answering the call of duty in defense of freedom.
Today, we honor their courage, remember their sacrifice, and remain forever grateful for the liberty they secured for generations to come.
On D-Day, the fate of the free world hung in the balance. Thousands of brave Americans advanced into chaos to save civilization. The tide turned because of their unshakable spirit. We stand forever grateful for these heroes. God bless them.
At last year’s NATO Summit, all Allies signed onto the historic Hague Defense Commitment. At next month’s NATO Summit in Ankara, we’ll see how much progress they have made in converting that commitment into real defensive capabilities.
Honored to welcome National Commander Dan Wiley and The @AmericanLegion team to @NATO HQ. I admire their selfless dedication to America's security and believe we all can learn from their example.
We stand with our NATO Ally Romania and condemn this reckless incursion on its territory. Our thoughts are with the injured in Galati. We will defend every inch of NATO territory.
Honored to meet @USSpaceForce War College Scholars at #NATO HQ. These brilliant Guardians are forging a bold, patriotic Space Force culture to dominate the final frontier and protect our liberty. The future of American strength is in great hands. Thank you for your service to our nation.
Today in Belgium, we honored First Lieutenant Donald West – a young American who volunteered to fight Nazi Germany even before the United States formally entered WWII. In the final moments of his life, he remained at his post so others could live.
His story – like that of so many American heroes who made the ultimate sacrifice – reminds us that our freedoms endure because ordinary men and women gave everything to protect them.
On Memorial Day, we remember all of the brave Americans who gave their lives in defense of liberty. We reaffirm our commitment to their ideals of sacrifice and service.
Leaving Sweden after productive NATO meetings. The goal is to have a NATO that is strong. The stronger our NATO Allies are, the stronger NATO is going to be.
This week’s NATO Foreign Ministers meeting is in the books. And, as @SecRubio noted, a stronger Europe means a stronger NATO. Now all eyes turn to Ankara, as we move to the #NATOSummit.
Thank you, Sweden, for being an excellent Ally and host for the #NATO#ForMin. Great place to build on our progress of turning defense spending commitments into real capabilities.
SECRETARY RUBIO: Sweden has been a model ally and tremendous addition to NATO. We’ve long cooperated on issues of tech and partnered with their companies. Today we signed a memorandum of understanding that builds on our cooperation on biomedicine, biotechnology, and AI.
🇸🇪🇺🇸
We need a strong defense industrial base to deter aggression today and keep the peace tomorrow – while creating American jobs and prosperity. Looking forward to continuing this critical conversation at the #NATOSummit in Ankara.
SECRETARY RUBIO: One of the areas I think we can definitely cooperate on is the defense industrial base.
It is clear to the world that we simply are not able to produce munitions today at a rate necessary for future needs. That’s something that has to be addressed.
