Once a mayor, always a mayor.
Today, we honored three outgoing mayors — @MayorBowser, @ghudspeth1, and @MayorSchieve — who have played pivotal roles in their cities and to our conference. #Mayors2026
Mayors are gathering in Long Beach for a third day to continue important conversations on how to strengthen America’s cities from coast to coast. #Mayors2026
We refuse to accept any level of violence as normal. But we are encouraged, especially on Gun Violence Awareness Day, of the progress @Chicago is making in driving down crime. My administration will continue strengthening community violence intervention, coordinated responses to crime, and increased investment in our young people.
Strong cities make a strong country. Mayors are closest to the people we serve, the challenges our communities face and the solutions that move us forward. And when others fail to act, cities lead.
Proud to join fellow mayors at the @usmayors conference this weekend. #Mayors2026
Thank you to @MayorOfLA for joining our meeting in LA’s sister city to talk to mayors about planning for LA28, key issues facing cities, and the power of mayors coming together to solve problems. #Mayors2026
We welcome thought leaders from all levels of government to our Annual Meetings of the U.S. Conference of Mayors. In Long Beach, I loved engaging in a bipartisan conversation with California Governor Gavin Newsom and San Diego Mayor Todd Gloria. And of course, the Governor is a former mayor. “Once a mayor, always a mayor,” he recently said.
At @usmayors, we share what works in our cities.
Thanks to @CAgovernor and @CalVolunteers’s state-funded Youth Job Corps, San Diego has turned internships into paid opportunities for 1000+ young people.
Nearly 1 in 5 now work for the @CityofSanDiego in good public service jobs.
USCM and American for the Arts were delighted to present @officialDannyT the Citizen Artist Award for his exceptional career as an actor and his deep commitment to serving and improving his community. #Mayors2026
At our Annual Meeting, mayors discussed key public safety issues facing their cities and successful efforts to address them. #Mayors2026@MayorJerryDyer@PVDMayor
On behalf of the U.S. Conference of Mayors and Americans for the Arts, I was honored to present the Citizen Artist Award to the iconic Danny Trejo!
Danny has appeared in over 400 films and TV shows, but more importantly, he’s an amazing person who is always serving others.
It was a special treat to have him join us at our Annual Meeting. In the presentation, I was joined by his friend and mine, former Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti.
“We have to define the terms of our future.”
@CAgovernor Gavin Newsom, and former San Fransisco Mayor, joined USCM President @davidfholt and USCM Vice President @MayorToddGloria for a conversation at our 94th Annual Meeting in Long Beach. #Mayors2026
“We had people throughout the country including so many extraordinary mayors in this room that stood up for us.”
Thank you to @MayorFrey for joining mayors at our 94th Annual Meeting. #Mayors2026
NEW: USCM released a letter urging U.S. senators to remove a dangerous new immigration enforcement provision from the reconciliation bill.
“This provision will weaken public safety and weaken our cities, our states and our nation. We urge you to remove it from the reconciliation bill as quickly as it was inserted.” https://t.co/sLvThFNp2w
For the last year, I have led America’s mayors as the 83rd President of the United States Conference of Mayors. My final act is to preside over our Annual Meeting, the highlight of our year. The 2026 Annual Meeting began today in Long Beach, California. Over 200 mayors have gathered in Long Beach, where we will have seven plenaries and over 50 breakout sessions. My final days as President will be a whirlwind.
I’m with nearly 200 mayors from across the country for @usmayors Annual Meeting focused on lowering costs, building more housing, safer neighborhoods, and more opportunity – and San Diego’s voice is at the table.
