A major milestone in strengthening Uganda’s industrial power infrastructure. UETCL has received three 80MVA transformers destined for the Kabalega Substation at the Hoima Industrial Park.

These critical assets will enhance power reliability and capacity to support strategic national investments in the Albertine region.

Once installed, the transformers will provide the backbone of the electrical infrastructure required to power the @EACOP_, petrochemical industries, and other industrial installations, further advancing Uganda’s journey towards industrialisation, energy security, and economic transformation.

Speaking at a media briefing held at the Uganda Media Centre, where she provided a status update on Uganda's Electricity Supply Industry (ESI), the Minister of Energy and Mineral Development, Hon. Dr. Monica Musenero, assured the public that the ongoing power interruptions associated with UETCL's #KampalaMetroProject are temporary and necessary to deliver a stronger, more reliable electricity network. The works are expected to be substantially completed by 8 August 2026.

She noted that, *"The current outages are temporary and are associated largely with planned investments that will significantly improve electricity reliability in the medium and long term."*

The Government of Uganda reaffirmed its commitment to investing in modern electricity infrastructure that meets the growing demands of the economy and ensures every Ugandan has access to reliable, affordable, and sustainable electricity.

UETCL staff came together for the quarterly staff meeting, featuring a sensitisation session by the Personal Data Protection Office (PDPO) on data protection, privacy principles and the legal obligations surrounding personal data.

Representing the @uetcl_ceo, Company Secretary Stella Ladonna Wattanga, conveyed his appreciation for staff's dedication and performance during FY 2025/2026, while encouraging everyone to build on those achievements in the new financial year as UETCL contributes to Uganda's 10-Fold Growth Strategy.

@uetcl_ceo, Eng. Richard Matsiko, acknowledged the inconvenience experienced by customers and expressed appreciation for their patience as the #KampalaMetroProject progresses.

He noted that "these interruptions are a necessary part of delivering a stronger, more reliable transmission network capable of meeting the city's rapidly growing electricity demand."

With the project now 90.57% complete, we thank the public for their continued patience and cooperation as we work diligently to complete the remaining works as quickly and safely as possible.

Great idea Ceasar! Please note that works of this nature are highly technical and are unfortunately not a simple “plug-and-play” operation. They involve the replacement and installation of transmission line components, heavy equipment, extensive safety checks, and coordination among multiple technical teams over a 13.8 km stretch.

While working at night may appear to be an alternative, it presents significant challenges. These include the safety and security of our personnel and equipment, reduced visibility for carrying out high-voltage transmission works, and the need to avoid subjecting residents to prolonged overnight outages, which would also have considerable social and safety implications.

The current load shedding is due to ongoing re-conductoring works on the 13.8 km Kampala North–Mutundwe 132kV Transmission Line under the Kampala Metropolitan Transmission System Improvement Project. For the safety of our personnel and the integrity of the works, these activities cannot be carried out while the transmission line remains energized.

We appreciate your patience and understanding during this period. Once the project is completed, it will significantly improve the reliability and performance of the transmission network, resulting in fewer power interruptions and a more stable electricity supply.

UETCL has commenced stakeholder engagements with local and community leaders in Moroto District ahead of the implementation of the 26.79km Moroto–Katikikile 132kV High Voltage Transmission Line, which will traverse Loputuk and Tapac sub-counties.

The project is a key grid expansion initiative that will strengthen electricity supply to meet the growing domestic and industrial power demand across the Karamoja sub-region.

The engagement, chaired by Moroto District LCV Chairperson Hon. Pulkol Anjello, reaffirmed the importance of collaboration in delivering the project.
