The news from Broad Peak is heartbreaking. I am profoundly saddened by the death of Nirmal Purja and the other climbers who lost their lives.
Nirmal was an extraordinary individual whose courage, determination and achievements inspired people across the United Kingdom and around the world. We are deeply grateful for his service in the British Armed Forces.
Through his remarkable mountaineering accomplishments, he expanded what many believed was possible and became a source of pride and inspiration for countless people.
As we mourn Nirmal, we also remember those who lost their lives alongside him. Our thoughts are with their families, friends and teammates at this unimaginably difficult time.
Heartbreaking news from Balochistan, where dozens of miners have lost their lives following a coal mine collapse. My sincere condolences to their families, friends, and communities as they mourn this terrible loss.
We are concerned by reports that several climbers have gone missing during a Broad Peak expedition, including a British-Nepali national. We are in contact with the Pakistani authorities and are grateful to them and the Pakistani military for their search and rescue efforts.
Best of luck Arshad Nadeem! Pakistan’s Olympic gold medalist is at @Glasgow_2026 to defend his men's javelin champion title, and is Pakistan’s flag-bearer at tonight’s opening ceremony. Fun fact: Lahore and Glasgow are celebrating their 20th anniversary as twin cities! 🇵🇰 🏴

Protecting genuine applicants from visa fraud requires a real partnership between the UK and Pakistan. The UK still welcomes genuine travellers, but using deception or false documents risks refusal and lasting consequences. My OpEd in @thenews_intl :
