One of London’s most unique autumn events is set to return this October, as participants from across the UK take on the London Halloween Walk.

This year’s event falls on Halloween night and will see thousands of walkers tackle the 25km Halloween Hike or 10km spooky stroll, following looped routes that weave through some of the city’s most historic haunts, riverside paths and iconic landmarks, all with a suitably eerie twist.

Starting and finishing at The Oval Cricket Ground, transformed for the occasion into the event’s very own dungeon, participants will head out on fully supported routes that take in highlights such as Westminster Bridge, St Paul’s Cathedral, St Katharine Docks, and atmospheric riverside sections along the Thames. With zombie-themed rest stops, costumed marshals and Halloween surprises throughout, the event offers a playful yet challenging way to explore London after dark.

It is the final Ultra Challenge Series event of the year and, with many participants choosing to dress up, its colourful and inclusive feel has made the Halloween Walk one of the series’ most distinctive events.

Participants receive full support across the challenge, including snacks and drinks at rest stops, hot food and refreshments at the finish, medical teams, marshals, and a fully signed route.

All walkers also receive a Halloween neck buff, medal, and certificate, adding to the festive spirit of the day. With good transport links and flexible start windows, the event is designed to be accessible for families, teams, charity groups and first-time walkers.

Participants can join as individuals or teams, either self-funding or supporting one of hundreds of charity partners. The Ultra Challenge Series continues to be one of the UK’s leading mass‑participation fundraising platforms, collectively raising millions of pounds each year. The Halloween event is expected to raise around £100,000.

Event organisers, Ultra Challenge, pride themselves on delivering a safe, professionally supported experience, ensuring that the Halloween Walk remains fun, atmospheric and accessible for all who dare to take part.

Race Guide: Ealing Half Marathon 2026

Here’s all the details on this year’s race, happening on Sunday 27th September 2026.

Start-time:
The race officially gets underway at 9am. Runners are encouraged to arrive at least an hour before the race is set to start and an hour and a half if they need to collect a race bib. The Ealing Feeling 5k takes place just after the half marathon.

Warm-up:
Everlast Gyms in Chiswick will be leading a group warm-up in the Race Village before the start to get you loose and ready to run.

Start line:
The race starts on Culmington Road and finishes in Walpole Park, Ealing in the heart of the Race Village. The address to head to for the Race Village is Walpole Park, Mattock Ln, London W5 5EQ.

Bag drop:
The bag drop will be in the middle of Walpole Park at the top of the Race Village. When runners receive their race number, they will also find a bag label. They’ll need to attach the label to the bag they want stored during the run. There won’t be any changing facilities onsite so people will need to come changed and ready to go.

Route:
The route takes in all the sights and sounds of Ealing. Starting and ending in Walpole Park, the run includes routes through Central Ealing, Montpelier, Pitshanger, Hanwell and back to Walpole Park in Ealing.

Shoreditch hosted over 12,000 runners and around 15,000 supporters this weekend as the borough experienced its first-ever half marathon.

The Saucony Run Shoreditch Half 2026 saw 12,000 runners sign up to race on Sunday 20 September, a year on from the launch of Saucony Run Shoreditch, which was staged as a 10k race. Following the success of that event, it was extended to a half marathon distance with additional spaces to meet the growing demand.

The new 13.1-mile route took in Hoxton Market, Clissold Park, Stoke Newington and De Beauvoir, with each neighbourhood creating a unique atmosphere, bringing the noise to push participants on. Over 15,000 spectators lined the streets, fuelled on by the area’s local cafés and bakeries that joined in the celebrations.

First time half marathon runners and experienced pros alike took part, starting and finishing by Shoreditch Park. The park hosted the event village, which housed food vendors, music and entertainment providing an energetic central hub for the race.

Many runners were participating as part of fundraising challenges, with over £110,000 raised for the event’s official charity partners, which included Headline Charity Partner, Alzheimer’s Society, along with Bart’s Charity and Tommy’s.

The South Coast’s biggest running celebration returns on Sunday 18 October as the city’s centenary takes centre stage at the AJ Bell Great South Run.

The AJ Bell Great South Run is all about local pride, the region’s rich heritage and the passionate local communities. Since the very first event in 1990, a special relationship has developed between the people of Portsmouth and the Great South Run, which is even more prevalent this year as the Great South Run joins the ‘Portsmouth100’ year-long celebration of being granted city status.

Across the weekend, more than 25,000 runners of all ages are expected to take part, with thousands of local supporters lining the course to create the famous Portsmouth atmosphere. Runners will experience one of the UK’s most iconic 10-mile courses, taking in some of Portsmouth’s most recognisable landmarks, enjoying spectacular views across the Solent and Isle of Wight, before finishing close to the historic Southsea Castle.

The Portsmouth 100/P100 branding will feature on this year’s AJ Bell Great South Run finisher medals and participant T-shirts, giving runners a unique keepsake from a landmark year for the city. The 2026 medal design also celebrates Portsmouth’s identity and heritage, featuring the city’s iconic star and crescent emblem alongside details inspired by the city, including the Spinnaker Tower, Mary Rose and Portsmouth’s naval heritage.Adding to the Pompey spirit will be the first ever Pompey Blue Wave, created through a partnership between the Great South Run and Pompey in the Community. Around 500 runners will take part in the dedicated blue wave, raising funds for the community foundation and helping support children and young people across Portsmouth.

Best of British – UK Athletics 10-Mile Championships

While thousands of runners will be chasing their own Great South Run goals, some of the country’s best distance runners will be racing for national honours as the event once again hosts the UK Athletics 10 Mile Championships.

The championships have become a major highlight of the Great South Run, bringing elite racing to the streets of Portsmouth and giving spectators the chance to see leading male and female British athletes go head to head over the famous 10 mile course.

Last year’s winners Marc Scott and Verity Ockenden are among the names to have left their mark on the championships, while the Great South Run has a long history of producing outstanding performances.

Previous winners include Chris Thompson, who won three consecutive editions, Liz McColgan, winner in 1995 and 1997, and Eilish McColgan, whose 50:43 victory in 2021 remains the women’s course record and a European best for 10 miles.

The Great South Run weekend gets underway on Saturday 17 October, with the AJ Bell Great South 5K kicking things off before younger runners take centre stage on Saturday at the AJ Bell Junior & Mini Great South Run

Giving children and young runners the chance to experience their own Great South Run moment, minis aged 3-8 will complete a fun 1.4km route, while Juniors aged 9-15 will take on a 2.5km course, with both events finishing with celebrations and a well-earned medal.

The weekend will culminate with the main AJ Bell Great South Run on Sunday 18 October, when more than 20,000 runners expected to take on the iconic 10 mile route.

Joma has launched the RS-9000, a lightweight road racing shoe weighing 126g, ahead of the 2026 Marrakech Marathon.

Joma says the shoe has been developed especially for road racing and tested at its J Lab, including testing under high levels of physical exertion.

The RS-9000 has an 8mm drop and features Joma’s Light Reactive technology, a specially injected Pebax-based midsole compound designed to provide cushioning and responsiveness while keeping the weight down.

An internal carbon plate is incorporated into the midsole, with Joma saying it is designed to improve energy transfer and provide stability at higher speeds. The shoe’s geometry is intended to support smooth transitions through the stride.

The upper uses lightweight nylon yarn reinforced with polyamide. Joma says the materials are designed to adapt to the foot while helping with moisture management.
Underfoot, the shoe uses a CPU outsole, positioned in areas with the greatest contact with the road to provide traction and wear resistance without adding unnecessary weight.

The RS-9000 being used for the Marrakech Marathon features colours inspired by the city and the race, with red, blue, yellow and black detailing against a white base.

The word ‘Marrakech’ appears on the side of the shoe, while palm-tree motifs feature on the outsole.

The Joma RS-9000 weighs 126g and has an 8mm drop. It is designed as a road racing shoe.

Thousands of people, including Katie Piper, took over the capital last weekend to take part in a trio of Ultra Challenge events across London, raising over £2 million, for charitable causes while showcasing some of the city’s most iconic landmarks.

Across the Thames Moonlight 10, Thames Bridges Trek and Thames Path Challenge, more than 5,500 participants took on distances ranging from 10km to 100km, travelling along the River Thames, crossing historic bridges and experiencing the capital from a unique perspective.

The weekend began on Friday evening with the Thames Moonlight 10, where participants completed either a 10km or 10-mile route past some of London’s most famous landmarks, including St Paul’s Cathedral, Westminster Abbey and the London Eye.

Saturday saw thousands take part in the Thames Bridges Trek, crossing 16 historic Thames bridges on a 25km route from Putney Bridge to Southwark Park via The Oval and Tower Bridge.

Among those taking part was Katie Piper OBE, who returned to take on the 10km distance, alongside members of the Katie Piper Foundation’s survivor community to raise awareness and funds for people living with burns and traumatic scarring injuries.

The weekend concluded with the flagship Thames Path Challenge, where around 2,800 followed England’s most famous river from Putney through Richmond, Hampton Court and Windsor, with the full-distance Challengers continuing all the way to Henley-on-Thames. Participants could choose from 25km, 50km, 75km and 100km options.

Run South London, the brand-new closed-road half marathon delivered by The Great Run Company and Merton Council, will debut on Sunday 14 March 2027.

The route for Run South London will take participants on an unforgettable 13.1-mile journey through one of the world’s most famous sporting destinations – running alongside the home of The Wimbledon Tennis Championships, through Wimbledon Common and Wimbledon Village, and past some of south-west London’s best green spaces and neighbourhoods.

Starting and finishing in Morden Park, just a short walk from Morden Underground Station, runners will set off on closed roads and head north through Morden, South Wimbledon, Wimbledon Chase and Raynes Park, with local crowds bringing energy and support to the opening miles. The route then builds towards one of its biggest highlights: Wimbledon. Participants will race through the heart of Wimbledon town centre before circling Wimbledon Park and running alongside the All England Lawn Tennis Club – home of The Championships, Wimbledon, and one of the most famous sporting venues in the world. From there, the scenery changes dramatically as the course heads onto Wimbledon Common, one of London’s largest and best-loved open spaces (and home of the Wombles). Runners will pass the historic Wimbledon Windmill and experience the Common’s heathland and woodland before heading through the beautiful streets of Wimbledon Village.

The journey back south takes runners through more of Merton’s neighbourhoods, high streets and local landmarks, with Raynes Park providing another opportunity for crowds to line the route and help runners through the closing miles. Then it’s back towards Morden Park for the final push, where a festival atmosphere and finish-line celebrations await.

The 11th edition of the Dragon’s Back Race® almost didn’t happen. Happily, the iconic multi-day race crowned 53 new Dragons on Saturday evening as the final runners crossed the finish line in Bute Park, beneath the walls of Cardiff Castle, six days and 380 kilometres after setting out from Conwy Castle in North Wales.

Of the 210 athletes from 20 nationalities who started the world’s toughest mountain race at dawn on Monday 7 September, just 53 completed the full course to earn the coveted title of ‘Dragon’ – a finish rate that underlines why this race has acquired near-mythical status. A further 63 runners completed the Hatchling course.

The men’s race was won by Danny Smith, who led from stage one and never relinquished his grip, crossing the line in a cumulative time of 46 hours and 59 minutes. The women’s race told the opposite story: Isobel Turner worked her way up through the field as the week wore on, taking victory in 67 hours and 46 minutes in a masterclass of patience and mountain craft.

This year’s race was the first under Ultra X, which acquired the Dragon’s Back Race® and the Northern Traverse in April 2026 after previous organiser Ourea Events entered administration. With the future of the race secured, the 2026 edition also introduced new ways to experience the legendary route: the two-day Dragon’s Fire in the north, the Dragon’s Tail finishing in Cardiff, and the established Hatchling course – bringing more runners than ever to the mountainous spine of Wales.

Sam Heward, Co-Founder of Ultra X, said: “When Ourea Events entered administration in the spring, there was a real chance this race would never happen. Watching the new Dragons walk down the finish straight beneath Cardiff Castle on Saturday, having crossed a country on foot, was the proudest moment of our year. 2027 entries open on 27 September with the race taking place between 6th and 11th September 2027. More than 800 runners have already registered interest – well beyond the event’s capacity – and places across the full six-day race are expected to sell out quickly.

NEW TRAIL SHOE: MERRELL MTL SPEEDARC PEAK

Merrell has announced a new technical trail racing shoe, the MTL SpeedARC Peak, developed through its Merrell Test Lab (MTL) over a five-year period.

According to Merrell, the development process involved 154 prototypes and more than 13,000 miles of testing, with feedback from professional athletes helping to shape the final design.

The shoe uses Merrell’s SpeedARC™ midsole system, combining PEBA-based FloatPro™ foam with a lower FloatPro™ layer and a Carbon Fiber FlexPlate™. The forked plate is designed to allow the forefoot to adapt to uneven terrain while still providing propulsion.

For the upper, Merrell has used Matryx® with Kevlar®, while the outsole features Vibram® MegaGrip Elite, designed to provide traction across wet and dry surfaces.

History was made on Sunday as the 45th staging of the Great North Run saw Prime Minister Andy Burnham line up with 63,000 runners take part in the biggest ever event in the race’s history.

Becoming the first serving Prime Minster to compete whilst in office, the 2026 Great North Run was Mr Burnham’s fourth time taking on the iconic 13.1 mile course from city to sea, having previously run in 2021, 2023 and 2024. Running in a personal capacity for charity Changing Lives to raise awareness of homelessness, he completed the event in 1:57:35 having signed up to run at the start of this year whilst still in office as Mayor of Greater Manchester.

Supported by over 200,000 people lining the Newcastle to South Shields route, and watched by millions on the BBC, the elite athletes delighted crowds before the mass waves of every day and charity runners took to the streets.

American Zouhair Talbi won the Men’s elite race on his first visit to the Great North Run. In a close run battle down the final straight he pipped last year’s winner Alex Mutiso from Kenya to take the tape in a time of 00:59:47. Mutiso finished a short distance behind in 01:00:01 with Yohei Ikeda of Japan in third in 01:00:40.

In the women’s race it was a Kenyan one two with Brigid Kosgei taking the crown for the second time in 01:06:15. Last year’s champion Sheila Chepkirui came second in 01:08:19
with Melknat Wudu (Ethiopia) in third in 01:09:37.

It was double British success in the elite wheelchair athlete races with David Weir taking a record 10th win in the men’s elite wheelchair athlete race (00:43:06), and Mel Woods taking first place in the women’s event in 00:50:19.

Newcastle United Captain and England player Dan Burn was on official starter duties all morning, dishing out high fives until the very last runner passed under the famous starting gantry. The class of 2026 were joined by a host of celebrities including Chris Kamara and Ben Shepherd running for Prostate Cancer UK, Joe Wicks, Sophie Rayworth, Helen Skelton, Jake Quickenden, and England legendary footballer Peter Reid.

Forestry England and Runners Need are inviting runners of all abilities to take part in the Forest Runner 5k Challenge, a nationwide event encouraging more people to get active outdoors and experience the joy of running in nature.

Taking place from 7 to 20 September 2026, participants can complete a 5km run wherever they are, whether that’s through one of the nation’s forests, a local park or a favourite trail close to home.

Thousands of Ultra Challengers took on the spectacular South Coast Ultra Challenge last weekend, raising more than £600,000 for charities.

Walkers, joggers and runners descended on Sussex from across the country for the annual event, setting off from Bramley Camping Park near Eastbourne and taking on distances of 25km, 57km and the full 100km route through the South Downs National Park.

The 100km Challenge saw participants tackle the dramatic climb to Beachy Head, cross the famous Seven Sisters, pass through Brighton and Hove, and continue across the South Downs before finishing beneath Arundel Castle.

While many participants took part to test themselves physically, the event also brought together hundreds of people fundraising in memory of loved ones, supporting charities close to their hearts and raising awareness of important causes.

Among them were Brighton couple Matt and Nicki Spiers, who completed the 100km challenge in memory of their daughter, Issy, who died earlier this year aged 13 after living with a brain tumour for almost four years. Joined by their son Jamie and a large group of family and friends, the team walked every step to support The Brain Tumour Charity, raising tens of thousands of pounds in Issy’s memory.

Also among the 100km finishers was Toby Freeman, founder of The Robin Cancer Trust, who ran his first-ever 100km ultra challenge as the final chapter of his long-running Big Ballsy Challenge. Toby has spent years raising awareness of testicular cancer through a series of endurance events while dressed as a giant testicle, helping spark life-saving conversations around one of the most common cancers affecting young men.

Elsewhere, David Radcliffe completed the challenge in memory of his son George, who died in 2023 following a battle with rhabdomyosarcoma, a rare childhood cancer.

David took on the 100km route to raise funds for Just George, a campaign supporting childhood cancer research through CCLG: The Children & Young People’s Cancer Association.
The event featured a 25km route along the Sussex coast, a 57km challenge finishing at Hove Park, and the flagship 100km distance which continued on to Arundel.

Ultra Challenge’s Nicola Smith said: “The South Coast Ultra Challenge continues to go from strength to strength and it’s fantastic to, yet again, see so many taking part this year.

“The combination of the South Downs, the Seven Sisters, Beachy Head and the Sussex coastline creates one of the most iconic and spectacular challenge routes anywhere in the UK, and that’s a huge part of why so many people return year after year.

“What makes the event truly special, however, is the incredible fundraising and personal stories behind every participant. To see more than £600,000 raised for around 150 charities is a remarkable achievement and demonstrates the extraordinary generosity, determination and community spirit of everyone who took part.

“Whether they completed 25km, 57km or the full 100km challenge, every participant should be incredibly proud of what they’ve achieved.”

This year marked the 40th anniversary of the Kidney Wales CDF 10K – and the whole city came out to join in with the celebrations.

The 10K saw runners take in all of Cardiff’s iconic landmarks including the Principality Stadium, Cardiff Castle as well as the city’s parklands, meanwhile the 2K family fun run which took place earlier in the day meant all ages and abilities were able to get involved with the race day atmosphere.

In celebration of the event’s 40th year, a group of participants who were all born in 1968 gathered on the start line for a commemorative photograph, 80s themed music was played around the course and the 2026 medal and t-shirt also provided a retro nod to mark the special occasion.

Many participants also turned up in fancy dress for the milestone edition of the race.

The 40th anniversary wasn’t the only celebration taking place as several PBs were broken on the fast and flat course too.

In the Men’s race Lloyd Sheppard-Brown (Cardiff Athletics) knocked an incredible 40 seconds off his PB to take the win in this year’s race with a time of 29:08.

He said: “It was a 40 second PB for me today so I’m over the moon. I’ve just come back from America so its nice to be back again on the home roads in Cardiff. I wasn’t expecting to win today, I spoke to my coach and the goal was to go under 30 minutes, so this was a nice shock. I was feeling good today, and I’ve always looked up to Dewi (Griffiths) for so long so it was nice to run alongside him, and then I just worked on closing down the last three miles. When I came down to the finish I didn’t quite believe how fast I’d ran – I couldn’t stop smiling as the crowds were cheering for me.”

Owain Terrell from Newport Harriers also secured a huge PB with a time of 29:55 to win the title in the Wheelchair race – nearly a minute faster than his win in 2025.

He said: “It’s a PB for me today on a tough course, so I’m happy with that. I’ve been trying out a new chair which I’ve had since April so I’ve just been trying to bed it in and get used to it and with this one you can spot me from a mile away as it’s bright yellow. I was expecting a decent time today although some of the tight turns around the course made it a bit more difficult. I’m looking forward to the Cardiff Half in a month’s time now too.”

And it was another crown for Newport Harriers with Kayley Price claiming victory in the Women’s race in 34:13.

Price, who is also a R4W ambassador, said: “I’m very surprised and super happy to win today. I wasn’t expecting it as I haven’t done a 10K in over a year. This time last year I did the Cardiff 10K, so I wanted a PB but wasn’t expecting to win the race. I was feeling good until the first mile and then I started to feel the heat and the fatigue in my legs but the support around the course and to the finish line was amazing, so I knew I needed to keep pushing and I found my second gear right at the end. It was a really good event and a really good course. I’ve now got the Cardiff Half in October so I wanted to get this one done as a build in to see what I can do in the next one”

Among the thousands of runners taking part in this year’s race was a team from the event’s celebration support, Kilted Dragon who were running in kilts to raise money for 2Wish and the event’s headline sponsor and lead charity, Kidney Wales. There were also 300 runners from 20 teams going head-to-head in the business challenge as well as 300 Kidney Wales fundraisers.

The event was the final race in the 2026 R4W 10K Series which also featured the ABP Newport 10K, Barry Island 10K and Porthcawl 10K. Bundle entries into the 2027 R4W 10K Series will go live on Thursday 10 September.

Wolf Run’s milestone anniversary year reaches its climax this weekend as organisers prepare to celebrate 15 years of obstacle racing adventure at Autumn Wolf.

Taking place on 12-13 September, the Warwickshire-born obstacle running event will mark 15 years since Wolf Run first burst onto the scene, bringing together past participants, first-time runners and local families for a weekend of mud, obstacles and celebration.

To mark the milestone, organisers are planning a series of special anniversary activities throughout the weekend, including a dedicated 15 year wave and much more.
Limited entries are still available for Autumn Wolf, and the 15 year wave.

Wolf Run offers both 10km, 5km and Junior Wolf options, with the signature 10km course featuring more than 30 obstacles spread across woodland, water crossings, mud and challenging terrain.

Participants will also tackle some of Wolf Run’s most iconic features, including the event’s famous 100m water slide.

With obstacle racing continuing to evolve, Wolf Run’s longevity remains notable. Since launching in 2011, the event has welcomed hundreds of thousands of participants and developed a loyal community that returns year after year for the unique combination of endurance, adventure and fun.

More than 8,000 runners took to the streets of Norwich on Sunday morning for a record-breaking Run Norwich 2026, as the city’s much-loved 10k once again united the community in a celebration of running, fundraising and achievement.

With 8,047 starters, the event recorded its largest field ever, while both the men’s and women’s course records were broken in an historic day for the race.

After a bright sunrise and a small threat of early rain, runners were greeted by warm sunshine, creating the perfect backdrop for another spectacular day in the heart of the city. The sold-out race, organised by Norwich City Community Sports Foundation and supported by strategic partner Norse Group, brought together thousands of runners ranging from experienced club athletes chasing personal bests to first-time participants taking on a personal challenge.

Philippe Clement was the special guest race starter, fresh from Norwich City’s victory at Sheffield United the previous day. Arriving early to meet volunteers, staff and runners, the City head coach thanked many of the 600-plus volunteers who had been helping prepare the event since the early hours of the morning.

Run Norwich’s fastest-ever men’s and women’s performances headlined an outstanding day of competition.

Jonathan Escalante-Phillips (Cambridge & Coleridge AC) produced a record-breaking run to win the men’s race, lowering the course record he originally set in 2024. Former champion Logan Smith finished second, while reigning Run Norwich winner Marshall Smith (Ashford AC) completed the podium in third.

In the women’s race, Daisy Glover made a memorable Run Norwich debut, claiming victory and setting a new female course record. Reigning champion Holly Archer, winner in both 2024 and 2025 and the previous course record holder, finished second, while Ellie Grubb secured third place for the second consecutive year.

An estimated 20,000 spectators lined the route, creating a carnival atmosphere as runnerspassed some of Norwich’s most iconic landmarks, including Norwich Castle, Norwich Cathedral and Carrow Road, before finishing in front of City Hall. Celebrations continued at Chapelfield Gardens, where thousands gathered for the presentation ceremony to recognise the day’s leading performers.

Beyond the elite competition, thousands of runners crossed the finish line with stories of determination, resilience and achievement. Many took part in memory of loved ones, while others ran to raise funds for charities close to their hearts. The event’s inclusive spirit was reflected by the participation of two visually impaired runners and a wheelchair racer, all of whom successfully completed the course. Aged 87, the oldest runner in this year’s event proved that age is no barrier, inspiring participants and spectators alike.

The 2026 AJ Bell Great South Run returns to the streets of Portsmouth on Sunday 18 October 2026 and once again the 10-mile race will host the UK Athletics 10-Mile Championships.

While the Great South Run is sold out, there are a limited number of Championship entries available to registered club runners from a UK Athletics affiliated club who meet the following entry criteria:

Male – a 10-mile race performance of 55 minutes or faster, since 1st January 2025

Female – a 10-mile race performance of 65 minutes or faster, since 1st January 2025
