One of the things I love most about this campaign is meeting the beautiful people of Congressional District 20 and hearing their stories. They tell me how they grew up listening to my music, watching me fight the government for free speech, and helping build Southern hip-hop into what it is today.

I received some heartbreaking news today. A young lady who volunteers on my campaign called me in tears. Her husband was deported and put on a plane to Haiti—a country he has never lived in, has no family in, no friends, and no support system.

This man has spent virtually his entire life in the United States. For the last year, his wife has been fighting to keep her family together. She reached out to politicians throughout South Florida, pleading for help. Not one picked up the phone. Not one called her back.

This is exactly what’s wrong with politics today. Too many elected officials want the title, the power, and the spotlight, but they don’t want to do the work for the people.

When families are facing their darkest moments, that’s when leadership matters most. Public service isn’t about press conferences and photo ops. It’s about answering the call when people need you.

My heart breaks for this family tonight. No family should have to fight alone.
