Section 19 of the Child Marriage Restraint Act 2017 allows misuse of the provision under undefined special circumstances, leaving young girls and boys vulnerable to decisions that can be harmful for the rest of their lives.
There should be no special circumstances!
Safe water.
Clean sanitation.
Better hygiene.
@unicef works with partners to expand access to safe water, sanitation, and hygiene, helping every child stay healthy, safe, and thrive.
This month, child journalists from @hello.bdnews24 asked one question to girls and boys across Bangladesh.
“If you could change one thing for girls, what would that be?”
Volume up for the response.

Every girl deserves the chance to learn, dream and shape her future.
Many Rohingya girls in 🇩 face barriers to education, but their dreams & hopes remain strong.
On this #DayOfTheGirlChild, listen to Tosmin, who shares her hopes and the support girls need to keep learning. ⬇️
The Child Marriage Restraint Act 2017 gives us important tools to prevent child marriage. But when the law falls short, children pay the price.
A modernized legal framework is essential to uphold the best interests of children.

Today is World Mental Health Day!
Imagine a 🌍 where every child & young person has access to the mental health support they need to grow into strong, resilient adults.
Let’s act now and make mental health a priority in all policies & all communities.
Clean hands can open the door to healthier days.
@UNICEF works with communities to promote good hygiene practices. Together, we can help every child stay protected.
A child's mental health is just as important as their physical health.
We must ensure that mental health is not just a priority, but a fundamental aspect reflected in all policies, ensuring every child can thrive and enjoy their rights to a healthy, fulfilling life.

Together, we celebrate the voices, leadership and determination of Bangladesh's young climate champions who are shaping a more resilient and sustainable future for every child.
Last week, children and young people gathered in Dhaka for the Local Conference of Youth (LCOY) Bangladesh 2026, turning climate dialogue into action and ideas into solutions. One message was clear: young people want to be part of shaping the solutions.
UNICEF has been a proud partner of LCOY over the years, creating opportunities for children and young people to engage in climate action and amplify their voices in climate decision-making.
Yesterday, H.E. Thitiporn Chirasawadi, Ambassador of Thailand to 🇧🇩, visited the Rohingya refugee camps in Cox’s Bazar where she met the children & listened to their stories & dreams. We thank the Royal Thai Embassy in Dhaka for supporting the education of Rohingya children.
Supporting the education of our children means investing in the future of our society.
Let's extend the opportunity to every child to achieve their full potential. 🙌
