In the contortions of semantic ambiguity, language is becoming more and more a weapon with which to deceive, or to strike and offend opponents. We need words ↩️
A かわいい little world apart from
The machine of man
What dear look has sure command
What kind call has reprimand
What daft foot trods lily pads
What plastic countenance is padded trad
Don't mean to make you mad
Just want
You
To think
@StateDept There has so long been the pretense of posed nemesis between sides that one side automatically wants the opposite of what the other wants without even being fully aware of what they want and why. I think reducing social divides could help reduce the desire to overturn democracy.
@StateDept Good points. I think what's making communist-adjacent ideology more palatable to people however might be more in the social tensions between left and right. You might even simplify it to the lack of friendliness. It's co-ocuring and it's tragic.
@Theoriginalpopp@WallStreetMav I would argue it's the lax way that algorithms are shaped for maximum engagement. Right now we are enmeshed in arguments about AI having ethical engagement but the algorithms still riding whatever gains someone profit and engagement. Therein is the true problem tik-tok too.
@politicalmath However I disagree on recycling and masking. Even if the action itself is purposeless, it trains the moral. People's inclinations are trained by repetition, that includes moral inclinations. People LEARN morals by repetition. Think of how a child learns gratitude.
@politicalmath Pro social acts of collective sacrifice are not -yet- natural inclinations, and I don't think that's unusual even outside of conservative circles as your pointing out by what's happening in NYC
I extend my heartfelt congratulations to all Americans on the occasion of the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. This anniversary stands as an invitation not only to celebrate the nation’s remarkable journey, but also to reflect upon the responsibilities that the sons and daughters of this country bear to one another, and to the generations who will inherit the nation that is being shaped today. https://t.co/jIio4BBg9v
possible to choose the kind of language you use. That means sometimes you can joke around and be silly, and other times you can be serious and rational. You are not 'stuck' as something you do not want to be.
how we think of ourselves. For example confident and respectful language can bring ourselves confidence and help us think of things in terms of respect
When we use profane or mocking language, I think we become inclined towards not taking things seriously. It's always
Read the entire thread of my comments. We are not obligated to accept premade political dispositions. We can invent new ones that borrow/share values. Think outside the cage of dated reason 🇺🇸💖
@elonmusk Disclaimer: I neither advocate nor undermine the importance of different political systems working better or worse for certain demographics, times, and places. I don't think you understand Chinese history and culture though. The lead up to communism was imperial corruption.
@elonmusk The idea that you, or I or anyone needs to be hard left or right is exactly the kind of thing that brings on inevitability of communist philosophy. Suddenly the left is burning church history books and the right is burning rainbow flags, and then we ALL lose.
@elonmusk We could benefit from introducing communal values without becoming communists your realize. We can invent more appropriate systems of governance than those you've read about. But for that you need to read history books to see where things went wrong.
