The “uncanny valley” feeling that people get from seeing something that’s not “human enough” is a strong indicator that at one point in our evolution we had a reason to be afraid of something that looked human but wasn’t.

At one point in our history there was a massive die off of humans. Less than 200,000 of us remained. We are all descendants of them, and we have no idea what caused the mass die off.

There is a place in Alaska where there are hundreds of mammoths that all died immediately within quick succession of one another. We have no idea what caused the deaths. The mammoths are immaculately preserved to the point where they still have food in their stomach and hair on their bodies.
