Today the U.S. Supreme upheld Idaho and West Virginia's prohibitions on transgender athletes playing in girls' sports. Utah is one of twenty-five states that have similar laws on the books. This is a huge victory in protecting fair competition and opportunities for girls and women in our country!
I am so grateful for the dedicated work and service of former Rep. @KeraBirk and the legislation she ran to protect Title IX and girls' sports in Utah. I am proud to be a co-sponsor of this legislation, and am glad to see policies that protect girls and womens' sports be safeguarded today.
Today's Supreme Court decision is a major victory for states' rights, common sense, and the integrity of women's sports. The Court made it clear: states have the constitutional authority to make these decisions. That's exactly how our system of government is supposed to work.
In Utah, we passed protections for female athletes because girls deserve a level playing field and the opportunity to compete safely and fairly. This is also a great reminder that elections matter. We can't take these protections for granted. Electing legislators who will stand up for girls, defend fairness, and protect the integrity of women's sports is critical. This isn't just about common sense, it's also about safety and preserving opportunities for female athletes.
Today's decision is a win for the Constitution, for federalism, and for the principle that these decisions belong with the states and the people they elect to represent them.

This is Utah’s story.
The Museum of Utah celebrates the people, places and moments that shaped our state.
Grand opening this Saturday, June 27. Free and open to the public.
Thank you, Mr. Speaker, for your support of this effort. Reducing class sizes and giving teachers more support is one of the most important conversations we can have for Utah's future. I look forward to continuing this work with educators, parents, and my colleagues.
Our kids are Utah's greatest asset, and our future largely depends on how well we prepare our kids today.
We've increased public education funding by $1.8 billion over the past five years, raised teacher pay, and invested in student success. But we're hearing the same concern from parents and educators across Utah: class sizes are too large.
As some school districts look at potential school closures, we have a unique opportunity to thoughtfully reduce classroom sizes and better support students and teachers.
That's why Representatives @jordanteuscher, @RepWhyte, Neil Walter, and Senator @LincolnFillmore are leading efforts to find solutions that give students more individual attention and teachers more support.
Stay tuned as we work with educators, parents, and communities in the months ahead to identify solutions that work for Utah families.
States are not junior partners in our system of government.
In @dcexaminer, Rep. Jason Thompson and Troy Smith make the case for restoring federalism, strengthening states, and returning decisions to the level of government closest to the people.
Rep. Ariel Defay joined @GoodThingsUtah to talk about Utah’s work to support strong families, from extending paid maternity leave for state employees to advancing policies that help parents, children and businesses thrive.
She also discussed her work to limit classroom screen time in the earliest grades, helping young students build strong foundational skills before technology is introduced.
The future of energy is being built right here in Utah and in the Mountain West. As demand for power continues to grow, states that embrace innovation, reliability, and an all-of-the-above energy strategy will lead the way.
Utah has spent years laying the groundwork for this moment: investing in energy infrastructure, supporting emerging technologies, strengthening our grid, and creating a regulatory environment that allows innovators to build.
Most importantly, increasing reliable energy supply is one of the best ways to keep energy affordable for Utah families.
Utah is uniquely positioned to help power America's future. That's good for energy prices, our jobs, economy, and our nation's energy security. ⚡️
Legislators were back at work this week for June interim meetings, studying issues, hearing public input and preparing for the 2027 General Session.

Utah just secured permanent public access to more than 50,000 acres in the Book Cliffs.
This once-in-a-generation purchase protects hunting, fishing, and public access in one of Utah’s most remarkable landscapes, while also strengthening the school trust fund that supports Utah students.
It is responsible stewardship in action: protecting our outdoor heritage, supporting our schoolchildren and ensuring future generations can experience the same landscapes that make Utah unique.
NEW: SITLA has agreed to a nearly $30 million deal to sell over 50,000 acres of land in the Book Cliffs area to @UtahDWR. The agency says it plans to turn it into a massive WMA:

“Her drive, foresight, and commitment to doing what is best for Utah are unmatched.
Abby has helped shape some of the most important successes of the House, and her leadership has strengthened both our institution and the lives of countless Utahns.”
What a run.
For seven years, Abby Osborne has been our fearless leader, a steady hand and a stalwart champion for Utah.
She built consensus on tough issues, led with vision through historic challenges and helped strengthen the Utah House as an institution. Her fingerprints are on our state’s most meaningful wins.
Now, she’ll take that same talent, drive and love for Utah to the Utah 2034 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games Organizing Committee.
We will miss her deeply, but could not be more grateful for her service.
Thank you, Abby.
Watch this incredible update from Rep. @CandicePierucci on how Utah’s servicemen and women stepped up for our country during Operation Epic Fury.
Hill Air Force Base is one of the most important military installations in the country. We’re lucky it’s right in our backyard.
As we celebrate 250 years of this great nation, I’m especially proud of the role Utah has played, and will continue to play, in defending freedom. Our state has a strong tradition of military service with Utahns enlisting well above the national average because they love this country and understand the cost of liberty.
God bless our troops, and God bless the United States of America! 🇺🇸
Abby has been far more than a Chief of Staff – she has been one of my closest and most trusted friends, advisors, and partners in public service.
Our history goes back many years, and throughout that time we have found ourselves on the same side of issues, on opposite sides of issues, and everywhere in between. Through it all, my respect for Abby has only grown. She has an extraordinary ability to bring people together, build consensus, and unite teams around a shared vision. Her drive, foresight, and commitment to doing what is best for Utah are unmatched.
Abby has helped shape some of the most important successes of the House, and her leadership has strengthened both our institution and the lives of countless Utahns.
While her absence will be deeply felt, I cannot think of anyone better suited to help lead Utah's preparations for the 2034 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games. Utah is fortunate to have her, and I am grateful for her friendship, her counsel, and her years of dedicated service.
