If children only sharpen their brains at school, there’s no guarantee they won’t go on to make trouble. To balance their keen brains, they need a warm heart. The more compassionate they learn to be, the more useful members of society they’re likely to become.
I often say that we should eliminate the notion of ‘them'. ‘We' should be enough; the whole world is part of ‘us'. This isn't some kind of old-fashioned way of thinking, or an altruistic forgetting of your own interests. I want happiness and in order to achieve that, I need you.
“One way to open your eyes to unnoticed beauty is to ask yourself, 'What if I had never seen this before? What if I knew I would never see it again?'”
—Rachel Carson
