A public research university and academic medical center, UToledo has been improving the lives of our students, patients, employees and neighbors since 1872.
Nearly 40 young entrepreneurs learned what it takes to start and run a successful business this week at The University of Toledo’s John B. and Lillian E. Neff College of Business and Innovation. The RISE Into Business summer enrichment camp brought teams of high school students to explore marketing, finance, accounting and other core business skills as they developed their own business plans to support the sale of the T-shirts that they designed on their first day at UToledo. https://t.co/4cEDBWIsKW
Toledo has been known as the Glass City for generations. At The University of Toledo, we're helping shape what's next.
Researchers are partnering with industry to advance glass innovation while preparing students for careers in materials science, solar energy, semiconductors and advanced manufacturing. It's one more way UToledo is helping strengthen northwest Ohio's manufacturing future. https://t.co/TrlPqwjsDq
A new telemetry study published in the Canadian Journal of Fisheries and Aquatic Sciences, co-authored by Dr. Bill Hintz, an associate professor of ecology at UToledo, finds that the method used to raise juvenile lake sturgeon before stocking has little bearing on how the fish behave after release, an important finding for ongoing efforts to restore the species to the Maumee River and other Ohio rivers. Along with Dr. Hintz, the latest study’s co-authors included lead author Jorden McKenna, who graduated from UToledo with a master’s degree in ecology and organismal biology in 2023 and now works as a biologist with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. https://t.co/HDnLWsITSP
The University of Toledo’s Dr. Shingi Mavima, an assistant professor of history at UToledo, draws on his doctoral research into popular cultural expressions of identity in southern Africa when looking at this year’s FIFA World Cup. One prominent expression is sports, with major events like the Olympics and World Cup not only bringing the global community together amid bouts of nationalistic pride but serving as platforms in which countries have for decades negotiated sometimes complex geopolitical relationships. He’s keeping an eye on the geopolitical stories that will no doubt emerge in this year’s World Cup. https://t.co/feHqNxgj4S

University of Toledo astronomers are advancing our understanding of a star’s earliest stages of development — and creating stunning images along the way.
Dr. Tom Megeath, a Distinguished University Professor in the Department of Physics and Astronomy, is the principal investigator on the observation program that yielded the
European Space Agency’s James Webb Space Telescope Picture of the Month in June. The image depicts a star-forming cloud of gas and dust in the constellation Orion. https://t.co/XIBU004tWZ
What does it take to restore an iconic Great Lakes species? 🐟
Researchers and students at The University of Toledo are helping reestablish a self-sustaining population of lake sturgeon in the Maumee River and western Lake Erie through a collaborative, long-term restoration effort.
The work is part of the broader research mission of UToledo's Lake Erie Center, where faculty and students study the environmental challenges shaping freshwater ecosystems — from invasive species and algal blooms to water quality and fisheries restoration.
By investigating local conditions, UToledo researchers are generating insights that help protect the Great Lakes and inform conservation efforts far beyond our region.

Today, on National Higher Education Day, we celebrate the power of public universities to transform lives, strengthen communities and fuel what comes next.
As part of Ohio’s 14 public universities, The University of Toledo is proud to help prepare the educators, engineers, scientists, healthcare professionals and business leaders our state needs to grow and thrive.
That work happens every day — through experienced-based learning, research and discovery as an R1 university, patient-centered care through UToledo Health and partnerships that turn ideas into impact for northwest Ohio and beyond.
Across Ohio, public universities power a $68 billion economy, support 865,000 jobs and create opportunity in every corner of the state.
At UToledo, we’re proud to be part of that momentum — building pathways for students, advancing solutions for our communities and helping shape a stronger future for Ohio.
