I’m shocked and devastated by the terrible incidents in Brussels with the cold-hearted attacks on our fellow Swedes. I’m lost for words for the cruelty and inhumanity, I want to send my deepest condolences to the families and friends of those affected. At the same time, my thoughts go out to all the supporters in Belgium last night, no one should ever go to a game of football and feel unsafe when supporting their team.
In the Pallen Wollof village we met with the village’s only nurse, Aminata Jobs, who showed us how mothers are trained to screen children in the community to detect and prevent malnutrition among the children.
Yesterday we visited the Farafenni General Hospital where we had the chance to speak to Bakary Dampha, the Nutrition Officer at @UNICEFGambia about malnutrition which remains a major public health problem in The Gambia.
We were able to sit down with some of the mothers to hear their stories and talk to nurses about the treatment programs that are mainly supported by @UNICEF donor funding.
As a father of two that’s one of the most touching experiences in my life and something which makes me incredibly proud to be a UNICEF ambassador. It was amazing to see how the contributions and support of UNICEF are helping so many mothers and young children.
I’m honoured to be here in The Gambia with @unicefsverige. During our days here Maja and I are going to experience and learn more about Unicef’s work for children across the country.
We also visited the EFSTH to learn more about the Maternity Ward, Inpatient Facility for malnourished children and Neo-Natal Ward. We had the opportunity to talk to mothers, doctors, nurses and UNICEF staff and learn more about UNICEF’s important contributions to the facility.
