One of the cruelest tools of slavery was the iron neck collar fitted with projecting hooks or spikes.
Used to punish attempted escape and to prevent resistance, these collars made it difficult or impossible for enslaved people to lie down comfortably or rest against a surface.
The hooks could catch on fences, branches, or bedding, turning even sleep into suffering.
Others were fitted with bells so that movement could be heard.
Slavery was engineered cruelty.
It sought to control nearly every aspect of a person's life — movement, rest, dignity, family, and identity.
It stripped Africans off every ounce of dignity.
Millions of Africans endured these horrors, yet they resisted in countless ways: through armed rebellion, escape, preserving their cultures, protecting their families, and fighting for freedom to the death.
When people try to reduce slavery to “just labor,” remember the iron collars, branding irons, whips, chains, family separations, and generations whose lives were deliberately and systematically destroyed and exploited for profit.
We remember not to dwell in the past, but to ensure it is never forgotten.
A man suddenly grabbed a child from his mother and demanded that she hand over her other children. But he had no idea a 16 year old wrestling champion was nearby.
The mother fought back as people rushed in to help, but the man struck her and kept trying to take her kids. She managed to get them inside the convenience store and behind a door, but he followed them in.
That’s when Canaan Bower came running over.
Canaan sprinted inside and found the man trying to get into the room where the family was hiding. He grabbed him, body slammed him to the ground and used his wrestling training to pin him there.
For more than five minutes, Canaan held him down until deputies arrived. The mother and all of her children were safe.
Canaan was only 16 years old. The skills he had spent years developing for wrestling ended up helping protect a mother and her children when they needed someone most.
Canaan is the kind of young man the internet should be talking about. He deserves recognition for this one.
NEVER FORGET
On January 6,
2021, six men dragged this officer down the Capitol steps.
He heard one scream, "I got one!" before the others ripped off his badge, stripped him of his radio, and seized his ammunition that was secured to my body.
They beat him with their fists and what felt like hard metal objects.
He heard chanting from some in the crowd - "Get his gun!" and "Kill him with his own gun!"
This officer suffered a heart attack and a traumatic brain injury.
Trump pardoned those six men.
These privileged frat bros gang graped a girl and invited others to join in.
The story was buried, only two were expelled (Cornell suspensions are for genocide protestors) and we are only hearing about it now because the victim is suing.
Cornell protected them, the police protected them, the system protected them.
This the Epstein class. This is how it’s bred.
"You have shown us that you are not on OUR side." —Viola Davis rejects Target's apology over racist Halloween costume
“Target, I do not accept your apology, and I do not believe that you understand the impact... the pain... the dehumanization of the above.
These images laid the foundation and the ideology for every atrocity that has been committed against my people.
We MATTER!!
You have shown us that you are not on OUR side.”
These are some of the thousand black women and girls missing in the US. You will not see their faces on the local or national news. But if a white woman or girl goes missing in let’s say small town Nebraska. It would be on ABC, NBC and CBS for a month. Sad but true
