If you're going to commit to veganism, it's absolutely worth investing 5–10 hours learning about vegan foods, cooking, nutrition, and the "why" behind it all. That small upfront effort will dramatically improve your confidence, enjoyment, and long-term success—and everything you need to read is right here. https://t.co/EVZlDtBitg
Portland just banned foie gras.
Not food waste. Not hunger. Not seafood fraud. Not PFAS contamination.
Foie gras.
To be clear, reasonable people can disagree about foie gras production. But when elected officials have a buffet of major food system challenges in front of them, it's fair to ask whether this is really the issue that deserves the most attention.
What bothers me isn't the loss of foie gras. I can live quite happily without it. What bothers me is the opportunity cost. Every hour spent debating a luxury product consumed by a tiny fraction of Americans is an hour not spent tackling problems that affect all of us.

@andrewzimmern Pure whataboutism. It's too bad you plainly don't care about horrific animal cruelty. Fortunately for animals, you're in the minority. Outlawing needless cruelties doesn't get in the way of gaining ground on other important food issues.
@KaylaLWatersR5@AquafabaMcGee I get into the complexity, nuances, and disagreements about how to define vegan here. My main interest is that the concept is used in whatever way can inspire people to make the most meaningful changes possible. https://t.co/EGbZtmrBLi
@AquafabaMcGee What is the actual definition? I suspect we not only define vegan differently, we also have different definitions of the word definition!
@Vegannews3 Mexican food is my top pick for vegans looking to explore a new cuisine. I've added this cookbook to my lengthy introduction to the topic. https://t.co/TcsQ96i7v3
Donations can help so many animals!
It so happens I just updated my guide to animal protection and vegan nonprofits. I have no financial ties to any organization, and I wrote this in hopes that people will make better-informed donations, and thereby protect more animals. https://t.co/i3fUJL6WRk
The dog torture facility known as Ridglan Farms is shutting down.
Congratulations to everyone who made this happen — especially @waynehhsiung, whose vision drove this campaign from the start.
I'll admit I started skeptical. I didn't think a group of grassroots activists could shut down the nation's second-largest supplier of dogs for animal testing.
They proved me wrong. Their courage and persistence generated a flood of media and political pressure — from @ggreenwald to @LaraLeaTrump — that made Ridglan impossible to defend.
The next challenge: converting this popular uprising over dog abuse into one about the abuse of all animals — in cruel tests and on factory farms.
This year’s farm bill reflects something of a revolution—so many voices, on left and right alike, saying we shouldn’t torture pigs. Good to see faith leaders stepping up in a big way to join this effort.
If you want to move towards a vegan diet, the most effective way to make rapid progress is to try at least 3 to 5 new vegan foods a week—these can include any item from the grocery store, a new recipe you make yourself, or something you order at a restaurant.
@Vegannews3 I haven't been waiting for this, since a $10 bottle of cyanocobalamin-based B-12 can prevent deficiency for an entire year. B-12 is super important, but my needs are already met on the cheap so I'm not looking for any breakthrough products.

One bummer about the rise of oat and almond milk is that it cannibalized soy milk's share of the market, leading to many grocery stores reducing the soy milk varieties they keep in stock. A serious bummer given that soy milk is WAY more nutritious—around 7 grams of protein per serving compared to just a gram in most almond milks.
For the past few years, Trader Joe's only offered soy milk in aseptic juice boxes, which are expensive and entail much more waste. So I was delighted to discover today that Trader Joe's just went back to carrying soy milk in classic half-gallon refrigerated milk cartons.
Many nutrients are super easy to get plenty of. Calcium's one of the trickier ones, and it's easy to fall short of your needs if you haven't read up on the topic. Here's the key stuff you need to know. https://t.co/Y6y6VZZVik

People pay top dollar for so-called "sustainable" seafood, not realizing they're being scammed. Yet another example of the seafood industry being filled with fraudsters. https://t.co/fW02CfzGJt
