@7sorrows@M_P_Hazell@JLLiedl It reinforces my view that all candidates for Priesthood should have at least a year working in a secular / non church environment. It teaches you, for example, that it is unacceptable to keep on rostering someone on their rest day without offering then an alternative.
@7sorrows@M_P_Hazell@JLLiedl I don't disagree with you there. I worked as part of a team (obviously) for my entire railway career. Entering into seminary and parishes it became clear most Priests simply don't have an exp of how teams should actually function.
@M_P_Hazell@JLLiedl This is only my exp so feel free to disregard, but it is my firm believe most candidates for the diocesan priesthood have highly individualistic personalities which hampers working in teams. Hence the almost zero cooperation between parishes even if they're half a mile apart.
@Stefano58576180 You make an assumption I haven't come to Jesus yet. I love him so much I promised to remain celibate for him so I could serve Him and His people with an undivided heart!
People are saying this contradicts Canon 906 but when you read Canon 904 (and accompanying commentary by the Canon L society of GB & Ireland) you realise it is indeed permitted to celebrate alone, even simply out of a sense of personal devotion to the Mass.
@Stefano58576180 Yes protestants have "checked the Bible" for 500years and there are over 10,000 different groups. Meanwhile the Church which Jesus founded (and which gave us the Bible) is getting on with saving souls.
@RonSelgrat2ddg These things come under disciplines which can and may be changed. Pope St Pius X gave St Charles DF a dispensation to say Mass without a server so in principle it was allowed with permission.
@RonSelgrat2ddg Out of interest do you fast from midnight (including water) when receiving HC? These things fall under Church discipline, they can and indeed may be changed or modified as is discerned fit.
@christian_state@JLDP73 There were a few servers dotted about but given many pilgrims did not arrive at camp till nightfall, demanding they rise in time for private masses would seem a little uncompassionate.
@christian_state@JLDP73 Respectfully with the sheer amount of walking involved at Chartres, and the boiling temperatures, allowing the boys an extra hour in bed is the compassionate thing to do.
@Ian_Gomersall For the modern rite there is a version that does that, however in the older rite no such option exists. In my opinion, saying Dominus Vobsicum applies as much to the angels and saints as it does to any congregation.
