North Saanich Mayor Peter Jones told residents…he “did not agree" with the province appointing CBRE Development Strategy & Consulting to serve as housing advisor…said that CBRE "helps developers develop” Politics only endeavour where ignorance of an industry considered an asset
Asking For More Time:
North Saanich Mayor Peter Jones told residents last night that he "was completely surprised and certainly did not agree" with the province appointing CBRE Development Strategy and Consulting to serve as housing advisor for the municipality.
Mayor Jones said that CBRE "helps developers develop," seemingly echoing concerns raised by residents earlier in the meeting about development industry influence on the process.
Council determined more time was needed to address concerns raised with items in the report and that a new draft response to the minister would be prepared over the next two weeks. Their provincially mandated deadline to respond is July 17th.
Council resolved last night to direct their CAO to write to the minister today to request a two week extension to make their final decision to allow another special council meeting to be called and held the week of July 27th.
"This is not the end," Jones reassured residents.
It is not clear what will happen when the July 17th deadline arrives.
