@Barts_Charity@NHSBartsHealth Could promote breast screening more to improve the lowest uptake in the country to prevent delays in diagnosis and better prognosis. Earlier detection is key but we miss the opportunity in SO many women in our cohort because they don’t recognise the benefits of screening 👌🏼
@swiftgfc@SoVeryBritish Google gallows corner… temporary fly over put up in the sixties in matter of weeks. Now being replaced, planned for 3 months, started June but already looking like March before it’s done… modern tech and a template and still mucked up. Local roads collapsing can’t make it up😭
This #BreastCancerAwarenessMonth, we’re delighted to announce we're making a landmark investment of £16.6m to transform breast cancer care in East London. 💗
Starting in early 2026, patients in East London will have access to a dedicated Breast Cancer Centre at St Bartholomew’s Hospital. This will completely change local breast cancer care for generations to come.
Patients will benefit from:
➡️ Improved access to advanced breast surgery and reconstruction
➡️ Shorter stays in the hospital
➡️ More supportive care, including fertility, recovery and wellbeing services
➡️ More equitable access to the very best care
➡️ Faster diagnoses
➡️ New opportunities to join research and access cutting edge treatments
Why is this needed?
Breast cancer patients in North East London have the lowest five- and ten-year survival rates in the country, according to @ONS. There’s also a high prevalence of breast cancer in women under 40, and a prevalence of more aggressive types of breast cancer.
The development will enable @NHSBartsHealth to bring breast cancer surgery from across its hospitals into one place. It’s expected the centre will handle around 1,800 breast surgeries annually.

@SoVeryBritish My dad had to ask for a kettle as he didn’t want to use the modern ‘boiling water ‘ tap😂😂 May be we’ll get a hot water tap emoji and still no kettle 😭😂
This #BreastCancerAwarenessMonth, we’re spotlighting a bold new therapy for basal-like breast cancer – a fast-growing, hard-to-treat type affecting many in East London’s younger and global majority communities. 🧵
With Barts Charity funding, Prof Cleo Bishop at the Blizard Institute and the Drug Discovery Unit at @dundeeuni are developing a “one-two punch” treatment:
1️⃣ Stop tumour growth
2️⃣ Kill the cancer cells
This targeted approach could mean fewer side effects and better outcomes for patients. The team is now working with @ValirxP to advance and license the treatment.

@beingbrilliant Thank youuu 🙏🏼💗 Wish the government would look after us. No one works as hard as us clinical/clerical staff in the nhs. Unless outsiders experience it they’ll never understand 😭
