Over the course of the last year, this campaign has waged a historic socialist challenge to the two-party system. We’ve traveled the country, hearing from working people about how capitalism makes their lives unlivable, and talking about the socialist solutions to these crises.

Thanks to the grassroots efforts of thousands of volunteers, we have overcome undemocratic ballot access laws and spread our message far and wide. But the fight is just beginning. The struggle to end the dictatorship of the billionaire class does not stop after Election Day, no matter who is in the White House.

La Defensa Del Pueblo Summit brought together hundreds of people from across the country under a commitment to continue to fight to defend our hard-fought rights and civil liberties.

What's next? Karina Garcia reminds us that "solo el pueblo salva al pueblo" — no politicians will grant us the freedom we continue to demand. All of the rights we enjoy today are a result of our people unifying, getting organized and fighting for them.

It will be the people — and only the people — that shake the systems of repression targeting all of our communities, tear them down, and build the future we all so desperately need and deserve.

Socialism is gaining popularity across the country because millions of people are recognizing a simple truth: we need political and economic power in the hands of the many — not wealth and power concentrated among a few.

For decades, we’ve been told to vote for politicians because they “look like us.” But record numbers of Black and brown politicians in office have not stopped our communities from facing poverty, displacement, police violence, unemployment, and exploitation. Representation in a capitalist system, built to concentrate wealth and power in the hands of a tiny ruling class, is not the same as power for working people.

Time and again, the Democrats have demonstrated that they’re both unwilling and incapable of leading the fight back against Trump and the racist, right wing attacks on our communities.

"I honestly don't believe that it will be anytime soon that we are going to revive the Voting Rights Act. So, I don't believe it is going to be the best use of our energy right now to try to get that done," said Kamala Harris last week.

Elections have been the primary arena of struggle for the Democrats. But now that millions have been disenfranchised due to Trump and the right wing gutting the Voting Rights Act, the Democrats have laid down their armor entirely.

While ICE terrorizes our communities –– where exactly have the Democrats been?

The truth is that ICE has always been a bipartisan machine. Democrats have repeatedly funded, expanded, and defended the very system they now claim, in word only, to oppose. They are neither willing nor capable of delivering the full rights and legalization our immigrant communities deserve.

Politicians come and go — but our people remain and continue to fight.

It is immigrants, workers, and the movement in the streets — not either party — who have always driven every gain we've won. And it is organized people who will ultimately defeat ICE terror and win a future with full rights for all.

Following New York’s June 23 primary, socialist consciousness is unmistakably rising in the heart of global capitalism. Several openly socialist candidates swept Democratic primaries, alarming establishment figures, like House Speaker Mike Johnson, who called the victories “dangerous” and vowed to fight “socialists” and “Marxists” in the midterms.

This victory doesn’t belong to the Democratic Party but to the people, driven by three years of Palestine solidarity organizing, street mobilizations, neighborhood organizing and canvassing, and campus encampments, which shifted mass consciousness and fueled campaigns championing popular demands: “End all US aid to Israel,” “Ceasefire now,” and “Abolish ICE.”

Ultimately, socialism can’t be enacted by simply winning elected office under capitalism. Socialism means working people hold political and economic power and use the resources we collectively create to meet the needs of the people and the planet. So long as we have a capitalist economy continuously reproducing a split between haves and have-nots, with a tiny few hoarding the wealth, the fundamental problems of our society cannot be solved.

The PSL has been running independent campaigns in California, New York, Ohio, Massachusetts, and Florida with this socialist program, while fighting for each and every reform that can improve workers’ conditions in the here and now. We believe the working class needs independent political organization, separate from and opposed to the Democratic Party, which is fundamentally a party of big business and Empire.

The Supreme Court has decided to allow the Trump administration to end Temporary Protected Status for hundreds of thousands of Haitian refugees.

While the administration escalates its war to garner up fear toward immigrant populations, let us be clear: Trump and the billionaire class are the problem, not immigrants.

With the democratic socialist electoral victories in recent days, socialism is on everyone's minds. In fact, today, it's among the most-searched words on Merriam-Webster.

[focus on what the people have done!]The sweeping victory of DSA from DC to NY isn't just a signal. It is a verdict. People want change. As I said after the success of Mamdani’s campaign in NYC, it's people’s moods, aspirations, refusal to settle that's driving this sea change.

People are not buying the fear mongering, not caving to the smears, not bowing to the open hatred and racism. People are starting to bet on themselves. Specially young people. They are proving: socialism isn't the boogeyman. It is the only path forward.

So what comes next? That's on us. On the organizers, the people committed to building a movement, people committed to building socialism. We are the ones who deepen this sentiment and expand it towards building people power and a socialist future.

We must know that voting alone won't save us. Organized struggle, an independent socialist movement- it’s not just possible. It's urgently necessary. And it's the only road to the real transformation of society.

In the latest attack on immigrant communities, the unelected millionaires on the Supreme Court just voted to allow the Trump administration to end Temporary Protected Status for hundreds of thousands of Haitian and Syrian refugees.

This ruling comes after a months-long battle waged by the White House to both revoke legal protections for those fleeing violence and natural disaster. At the same time, the far-right's racist culture war to vilify immigrants has only escalated.

Temporary Protected Status — a major victory secured by people who fought for it in the streets — has enabled millions of immigrants to rebuild their lives and raise families in the United States. Many TPS holders play cornerstone roles in our communities, carrying out work that keeps our society running. Now that DHS has the ability to abruptly end this program, the stability of communities across the country hangs in the balance. This decision greatly impacts far more than just those with TPS.

Rather than tackle poverty, soaring food and rent prices, or deteroriating infrastructure, the Trump administration chooses to attack immigrant and refugees in an attempt to scapegoat them for all of society's problems. But we know the truth — billionaires are destroying this country, not immigrants.

This racist, anti-immigrant, billionaire offensive by Trump's government must not go uncontested. It's time to build the movement necessary to secure full rights for all immigrants and refugees! Hands off TPS!

This June 19 marks 161 years since the last enslaved people in Galveston, Texas were officially declared free. All across the country, Juneteenth celebrations are commemorating this historic milestone of the Black liberation movement.

As Trump and the far-right ramp up their attacks on working people broadly in an attempt to rewrite our history and strip us of our civil rights entirely, we are confronted with a critical question: what must we do to end the war on Black America, once and for all?

Originally born from the struggle for abolition, Juneteenth was made into a federal holiday in 2021 in the aftermath of the valiant struggle against racist police terror. Juneteenth reminds us of the will that our people have always had to fight, the role that fight has historically played in achieving the basic rights we have today, and the necessary role of organization in our ongoing fights for freedom.
