ok, let's go to the basics
1. Are Ukrainians thankful for U.S. support? - Of course, immensely.
2. Would we have collapsed in a few weeks without support in 2022? - No, as the decisive force of the resistance was how society reacted and courageously engaged in resistance. Additionally, there were still a significant amount of Ukrainian and old Soviet weapons in 2022. However, U.S. assistance, including javelins, did play a significant role.
3. Are Ukrainian cities in ruins? - Some of them are, yes. Some others are occupied, with Russian torture chambers inside. -- However, most of them are not, as cities like Kyiv, Kharkiv, Odesa, Mykolaiv, Kherson, and others, were bravely defended. Furthermore, thanks to allies' support, including America, we have air defense that has been very helpful.
4. Do Ukrainians want peace? - Yes, immensely. More than anyone else. -- Will they accept the Russian vision of peace as an occupation (or future occupation) or undermining Ukrainian sovereignty? - No.
5. Is any peace deal possible without Ukraine? - No.
6. Does Zelenskyy have "cards" in his hands? - Yes, he has Ukrainian resistance and support from allies.
7. Do Ukrainians come to America to teach Americans how to feel? No, of course not. But we do want to share how we feel. Being at war for so many years is a feeling that needs to be heard. It's about empathy and being human. -- We also want to share what we think, because we know Russia much better than anybody else.
8. What is strength? -- Strength is not about humiliating the weaker. Strength is about supporting the weaker and challenging the stronger. This is where Christian values and human rights values coincide.
9. Will we have a chance to fix our relationship? - We certainly hope so. Ukrainians are thankful and respectful, but we are not a "thing" to talk about. We are the owners of our future, and we have proven our agency and subjectivity many times in the past decades.

Ukraine is not alone.
Germany together with our European allies stands united alongside #Ukraine - and against the Russian aggression. Ukraine can build on unwavering support from Germany, Europe and beyond. Their defence of democracy & their quest for peace & security is ours.
I have covered presidential politics for 40 years. This was the most juvenile display by a President and Vice President I have ever seen. Other presidents treated their enemies with more respect. This is a low point and a dark day for the US.
Your dignity honors the bravery of the Ukrainian people.
Be strong, be brave, be fearless.
You are never alone, dear President @ZelenskyyUa.
We will continue working with you for a just and lasting peace.
Ukraine is Europe!
We stand by Ukraine.
We will step up our support to Ukraine so that they can continue to fight back the agressor.
Today, it became clear that the free world needs a new leader. It’s up to us, Europeans, to take this challenge.
The Oval Office ambush is wake up call #742 to Europe: America doesn’t have your back & you are out of time. Seize Russian assets in the EU, embargo Russian energy, allow Ukraine to hit targets on Russian territory with our missiles, & prepare new air defense & troop commitments.
Given that the Trump people did nothing to induce Russia to end the war, it’s fair to conclude that the whole idea of pursuing peace was just a pretext to renew relations with Russia.
Russia does not want to end the war, and the Trump administration has shown no ability to induce Russia to end the war. And so, predictably, the Trump administration blames the victim, blames Ukraine.
Trump and Vance act as if the problem is that Ukraine is resisting an ongoing Russian invasion. The problem is the ongoing Russian invasion. If they want to use American power to stop the war, apply it to the aggressor. Abusing the victim is not going to end a war of aggression.
If Europe doesn’t find its proverbial balls immediately and take deterrent action, Russia will likely attack the Baltic states during the Trump presidency.
I’m in Munich and people keep asking me to decode Vance’s speech. OK: In Vance English “free speech” means “Let Musk run your elections” and “democracy” means “let Russia run your elections.” Now move on. 2025 is about what Europeans do, not what Americans say.
'Decolonisation' is a concept circulating all too belatedly in our work.
But Ukrainian + Crimean Tatar artists have long been engaged in decolonisation, with many approaching the past in a way that 'provincialises Russia.' Rory Finnin @IWM_Vienna.

Raping women who had just given birth and receiving treatment in a maternity ward in a hospital in the Central African Republic is one of the worst crimes Russian paramilitaries have ever committed in Africa.
