When you look at play, exploration and how outsourcing thinking into the external environment plays such a pivotal role in early education within EYFS and primarl, it's impossible not to take into account the environment when thinking about learning.

Remember when we were obsessed with children being able to recite the learning intention, forgetting that the whole point of the lesson was for them to learn something they didn’t yet know?
That was fun, that wasn't it?
When looking to implement initiatives, I find it helpful to look at the key areas within teaching that these can attach to so they do not feel like add-ons.
Where in our current teaching framework can it be achieved? Where can we intergrate within existing strategies?
It was great talking with Kieran about all things teaching, learning, leadership. It was one of my first podcasts in a while so I really enjoyed recording this episode with him.

While whiteboards are a great tool when conducting a show-me check for understanding, whiteboards and other external sources are worth so much more.

There is never going to be a book written about how to store your whiteboard pens smartly away so they're accessible but don't go dry. I would argue, that these things are exceptionally important in the primary classroom to ensure teaching runs smoothly

Clear instructions, strong routines are just some of the ways we can reduce friction in class but not all friction should be removed from a lesson...

@MrLeeBates Yeah it's definitely an active measure. Sometimes you want things to move quickly. To feel like there's a tempo to what's going on but also sometimes you want the tempo to reduce down. For real deeper thinking to happen. Allowing them to tussle with an idea for a while.
I gave myself September off, so here is my first post of the new academic year.
There is a lot of ambiguity when we're talking about lesson pace. I prefer to talk about reducing lesson friction, but not all friction is bad...

Anyone else feel like we're now just communicating with chatbots representing parents? I say we let the school's chatbots talk to the parents' chatbots and leave the rest of us to get on with teaching. 😂
@C_Hendrick@AskPerplexity And yet you still had to have the knowledge of the core components that she needed to know in order to understand the concept of time so you could use the technology to create the tool...knowledge still matters
Knocking it out the park. An extraordinary example of how students from any walk of life can achieve academically, given the right environment. Comprehensive, inner city kids, thriving. Demographics are not destiny, and no one’s path is fixed.
