@JennyStreeter3 Too early to say exactly, but what do you think happens with the AHL situation depending on where the NHL team goes? This includes the Stars team already in Austin, too. Seems a no-brainer for SA to get a minor league team wherever the NHL end up.
“Houston is enormous, & it is a major market that we’re not in … to add a city of Houston’s size & demographics to our league, there would certainly be benefits associated with that,” NHL Deputy Commissioner Bill Daly said today at the NHL Media Tour.
HUGE thanks to @ZackRaab on finding me the @Marlins jersey in New York of all places! I was worried I had missed out on this one since it was gone so fast online and I can't make it to Miami at this point (and it wasn't in my size when people checked, too).
After sitting down with Houston Mayor John Whitmire today, here's what he had to say on his interest in providing city to support to bring the NHL to Houston — and how the Harris County-Houston Sports Authority (@HC_HSA) will be involved.

Elliotte Friedman: Re NHL expansion: This is just my theory...I think the NHL needs this expansion done for the next US TV deal, and if they can add Houston...and Atlanta...they think it's going to make them even more valuable as a TV property - 32 Thoughts (8/25)
____
NHLRR: Friedman notes that the US TV deal is up in a couple of years; emphasized that this is his theory/opinon
Elliotte Friedman: Re NHL expansion/Texas: Judging from what the Deputy Commissioner Bill Daly said, it really does sound like a formality, it is going to happen - 32 Thoughts (8/25)
Elliotte Friedman: Re NHL expansion: My guestimate...Houston, Atlanta if they can do it, new [US] TV deal, which is what a lot of people that own these teams are concerned about; after that...the Commissioner rides partly into the sunset - 32 Thoughts (8/25)
____
NHLRR: Friedman's theory appears to put a rough timeline on the end of Gary Bettman's tenure as Commissioner; Bill Daly has long been speculated as his successor; Bettman is likely to keep some kind of role within the league
Definitely think its worth its own note that Houston has five current community full-size hockey sheets (such as the Aerodrome Ice Skating Complex and Bellerive Ice Rink in addition to others) compared to Austin's four.
