We recently partnered with the Army Corp of Engineers and American Chestnut Foundation to plant 100 chestnut trees at Burnsville Lake WMA. The orchard will help with furthering research and the reestablishment of the American chestnut to the wild.
Let's talk about West Virginia’s state bird: the Northern Cardinal. Did you know this bird is a year-round resident of the Mountain State? Males have bright red plumage, while females are a beautiful brownish-tan with reddish tints. Have you spotted our state bird recently?

Let’s talk about our state animal: the black bear! Did you know black bears are not true hibernators? They go into a lighter sleep called torpor. These omnivores eat mostly plants, and their cubs weigh just 8 ounces at birth.
Mark your calendars! The youth fishing derby at Little Beaver State Park is this Saturday from 9-12. Registration is 9-10:30 a.m. This free event is open to anglers ages 3-14, who must be registered by an adult to participate and be eligible for prizes.
