Not-for-profit organisation raising money for @AlzResearchUK with a unique outdoor activity web app. Providing fun, exercise and wellbeing for all the family
Continuing my training with a long and very hard 11 hour, 50km walk along the South West coast path last Saturday for the Walkwyse Endure for a Cure 109-mile Ultra marathon. For more info visit https://t.co/rBaaTubWaK .
At stages during the day, on the side of steep rocky cliff paths, I didn't think I could complete the walk, but thought of Lin and the reason for doing it drove me on. I was certainly too tired to do a walk the next day, so have a lot of training to be able to complete the 4 day event with the first day being this 50km coast path.
All my walking is in aid of raising funds for @AlzResearchUK and ridding us of the terrible disease that is Alzheimer's. To make a donation please go to https://t.co/X4hbCZNL8Q

We are pleased to introduce the Walkwyse “Endure for a Cure” 109-mile Ultra Marathon, a four-day endurance event set amidst the breathtaking landscapes of South Devon. Participants will traverse 33 miles of the South West Coast Path and 18 miles across Dartmoor, making this an exceptionally challenging experience. Scheduled from August 28th to 31st, this event supports Alzheimer's Research UK in their mission to find a cure for this devastating disease.
As this is the inaugural year for the Endure for a Cure Ultra Marathon, we are restricting entries to a small number of participants. Interested individuals who are able to independently arrange their own food, transport, and accommodation are invited to contact us at [email protected]. GPX route files for each stage will be released later in the year. Supporters who wish to join a segment of the route are welcome to do so as well. For more information visit https://t.co/rBaaTubWaK
Participation will also be open nationwide to anyone who wishes to join virtually through the Walkwyse web app and contribute to the fundraising efforts for Alzheimer’s Research UK.

"You don't have to be an expert on dementia to become an expert on loving someone with dementia. Love doesn't need to be perfect; it just needs to come from the heart."
#Alzheimers#dementia#quote
There is an eight important tip, especially for someone who has late stage dementia and that is hold their hand. This creates a physical and emotional contact.
Please re-Tweet to raise awareness: At its heart, good caregiving is about letting go of our own expectations and finding ways to offer the support our loved ones deserve and value.

Right now, too many people wait months — even years — for a dementia diagnosis.
Our Ambassador & husband of the late Dame Barbara Windsor, Scott Mitchell, told @BBCNewsnight about their dementia journey.

We continue our epic virtual Ramble Across Europe. Having left Porto in January we have now just passed the world famous Palace (Alcazar) in Segovia, Spain. Participants receive post cards from places like this as they progress along the virtual trail.
The Walkwyse web app shows our virtual position is 476km East of Porto, only 25km to Madrid and just over 600km to Barcelona. We are averaging 34km/week in South Devon despite the mixed weather this last week. Lin & I tried out the new accessible “board-walk” on Blackpool sands, great for Lin’s electric wheelchair.
You too can join us and the other participants on this ramble, you set your own distance and our unique distance weighting system keeps you in step with all of us. Download the Walkwyse web app at https://t.co/yRQtDiRm5e

Possibly the most poignant poem I have read, written from the perspective of a dementia sufferer. It is incredibly meaningful to me and brought me to tears, as my wife Lin is in late stage dementia and I care for her 24x7 at home for the reason described by the poem.
Please support @AlzResearchUK who is funding research to find a cure to this devastating disease. Visit https://t.co/yRQtDiRm5e and click on the donate link, 100% of proceeds goes to Alzheimer's Research UK.

The Walkwyse team raised a whopping £4,661 on the recent London Winter Walk half-marathon @UltraChallenges for @AlzResearchUK Well done team, especially Lin, for braving the weather, and a big thank you to everyone who donated!
We completed the London Winter Walk 2025 half-marathon, soaked and cold after just over 4 hours walking with the last 2 hours of wind, rain and 7 degrees! Lin was the star, in the wheelchair, having late stage dementia (Alzheimer's), she made no complaints and even managed to smile to strangers passing by. Highlights the benefits of getting outside whatever the weather in lifting the mind & spirit!
Joe (our grandson on the left), also a star, helped me push Lin around the course.
We have raised over £3,800 on this event so far for @AlzResearchUK to help fund a cure for this devastating disease.
