JUST IN! Mayor Moya files affidavit against City Manager, says "It wasn't me" and hides away.

Tshwane Mayor Moya has filed a responding affidavit against suspended City Manager Johan Mettler where she seeks to absolve herself from any responsibility in his suspension.

In a 15 page submission with another 100 pages of useless annexures, Moya has effectively said "Woe is me, I am a victim of circumstance".

She refuses to comment on legitimacy of Council vote (it was a shambles), and complains she didnt have enough time to file (she waited until everyone else filed🙄)

Moya effectively takes zero position. Her ANC/EFF partners will be irritated. Just waffling about her role as a mayor and what is expected of her.

"Yes I wrote the report to council to suspend the City Manager. Yes the report might be flawed and nonsense. I don't know if Council vote was legitimate (she does). Yes I served him with a suspension letter.
Oh well, now he is suspended what are we to do."

Proper weak sauce stuff this.

Definitely the meekest affidavit filed so far. Nothing of substance. Wonder how much the lawyers charged.

Tshwane Speaker fires back at Mettler, ignores legality of Council vote, argues against urgency.

The Tshwane speaker has filed a affidavit trying to justify the suspension of Tshwane's City Manager. Except his play is clear. He knows the council vote was illegal, his argument is against urgency.

Yes, the Tshwane Council Speaker makes zero attempt to justify why when 92 legitimate votes were cast to stop suspension, he arbitrarily disallowed 13 votes. Zero by-laws quoted. Just making it seem like he has broad discretionary powers to do this. He doesn't.

Instead the desperation of the ANC/EFF/ActionSA coalition is seen in their attempts to argue against urgency. They know the vote was illegal and they will lose.

They just want the courts to uphold the suspension, so the City Manager stays out of the city until the election. All they want the courts to say is "This isn't urgent."

Why? Why are the ANC/EFF/ActionSA coalition so desperate to keep the City Manager out the city?

It is indeed a "witch hunt". A desperate flailing around and attack on a good man. An overt and explicit attempt at city capture in capital.

Enabled by a hapless mayor who is more comfortable bullying informal traders than standing up for what is right.

It will not be so much a collision as a complete bulldozing that takes effect. The affidavits submitted by Solidarity and the DA absolutely evicerate the shambles that was the attempt to remove this man by office.

As the ANC and EFF celebrated, the best ActionSA Mayor Moya could do was issue out a meek statement saying "it is what it is, oh well, let me go back to bullying informal traders"
