Are you familiar with defamiliarization? It's actually a really common technique in film but not one that's often taught or even named. It's kind of a personal mission of mine to make it more known because I think it's that cool.
Defamiliarization is when you take something literal and make it figurative. For example, movies like Flight, A Star is Born, and Crazy Heart, all feature a realistic portrayal of someone dealing with alcoholism. The Shining defamiliarizes the same struggle by presenting the "whispers" of the disease as the voices in a haunted hotel.
Of all the genres, horror defamiliarizes the most and is fairly obvious about it. If you've seen a horror film where the monster is a metaphor for grief, that's defamiliarization.
For this flight, I wanted to not only highlight defamiliarization but do so in a genre many people don't expect it: the love story.

@ProfessorStuDDS hey, other account. When I said “progress in life” I was mocking something I wrote, not you. I was agreeing with you about coming off as condescending.
I really was trying to make progress I in our conversation. I wrote a big thing about subplots to get your take on it.
Plus, I never got to share my admiration for Darby. I was a big Sting fan and the whole time together was so well done and special.
Anyway, wanted to at least try and clear the air because I really didn’t want you to think I was mocking you. If you still want to block my main, that’s fine. If you want to keep discussing, because I genuinely was enjoying the back and forth, that would be great.
Either way, wishing you the best
@VCartiglia@JohnJHarwood@JeffPassan Exactly!
Say the guy who gets 1.2 less hits per week always hits a HR. And the guy who gets 1.2 more hits per week almost always singles…. who is more valuable?
@KS20891 @JohnJHarwood@JeffPassan It won’t let me comment on your other posts because X flagged them for breaking their rules.
But I played college baseball. Just because I know baseball better than you doesn’t mean you have to freak out
@LVRaider321@JohnJHarwood@JeffPassan That’s not even in the ballpark of what I was saying.
It’s genuinely impressive how much you butchered comprehending what was said
