Anonymous testimonials from UMich grad instructors and students highlighting the importance of allowing instructors to require masks in class. #WhyWeMaskUMich
Beginning today & until instructors are empowered to require masking in their classrooms, we will highlight the harms of the current policy by sharing testimonials from instructors, students, and other UM community members. Day 1 of tweeting at @UMichPrezOno #WhyWeMaskUMich
(2/2) It only takes one student who is sick with #Covid coming to class to expose and potentially infect others. Lectures @UMich easily consist of 100+ students. Ignoring the problem does not make it go away. #CovidIsNotOver @UMichPrezOno @DrRobErnst#WhyWeMaskUMich#MaskUp
(1/2) The wastewater levels don't lie and @UMich students are aware of rampant sickness on campus. Why are there still no mitigations? We know COVID is #airborne and a majority are not masking on campus. How many of these students will endure #LongCOVID symptoms? @DrRobErnst
“I caught COVID from an instructional setting in Spring 2022. I continue to mask in class and around others, but feel less safe than last year.”
A few years later and most @UMich COVID policy has been reversed despite severity and prevalence of this virus. #WhyWeMaskUMich

With a new semester starting @UMich tens of thousands of students are back to campus, COVID mitigation has been abandoned, and #COVID is skyrocketing. Keep yourself and your community safe and healthy this fall. #MaskUp@DrRobErnst @UMichPrezOno https://t.co/mdRKB6xQuy
Please sign/share this letter to protect remote work for @UMich ITS employees. Remote work is a safety & equity issue. Forcing workers to return in-person during the Fall when COVID cases are already high is dangerous & negligent #CovidIsntOver

"I am currently enduring Long Covid after my kid’s daycare refused to institute masks even after proof of community transmission. I was in bed for 6 weeks, got pneumonia, and am experiencing symptoms three months later.." #WhyWeMaskUMich#COVIDisntOver@DrRobErnst @UMichPrezOno

In @UMichPrezOno's email addressing the encampment raid he states, "...Ensuring that the campus is safe – for students, faculty, employees, university visitors, and protestors – is a paramount concern". Allowing police to brutalize students in the encampment shows the opposite..
We absolutely condemn @UMichPrezOno and the U-M Regents for unleashing the police on their students in Tuesday morning's violent raid of the Gaza Solidarity Encampment. We stand with the protestors who were arrested. Drop the charges! Divest now!

‼️BREAKING‼️ At 5AM today, MSP raided the camp; multiple protesters pepper sprayed, 2 hospitalized, 4 comrades detained. ALL OUT TO WASHTENAW COUNTY JAIL!
Address: 2201 Hogback Road, Ann Arbor, MI
@UMich @UMichPrezOno:
"We prioritize the safety & wellbeing of our community!"
Also UM admin & Ono:
*Sends police to brutalize and arrest students*
*Ignores safety concerns about COVID policies*
*Ignores concerns about racism, sexual misconduct, campus accessibility etc*
Without student activism, UM would not have had the COVID protections that many fought for during the 2020 @geo3550 strike. On top of that disability is intrinsically tied to the physical and psychological violence Palestinians are being subjected to here and in their homeland.
Intersectionality, commitment to cross-movement organizing, cross-disability solidarity, and collective liberation are in the 10 Principles of Disability Justice. #WhyWeMaskUMich stands with Palestinian community members against @UMich's escalating responses to student activism
Happening now! #Strike4Gaza shutting down @UMich.
No business as usual while our university funds genocide! Join a picket line, cancel class, buy nothing. Show some solidarity!

“I have had multiple students show up to class unmasked, and then email me the very next day saying they have tested positive, thereby having exposed me and their peers.." @DrRobErnst @UMichPrezOno #WhyWeMaskUMich#CovidIsAirborne#COVIDisntOver

@DeeLaSheeArt For anyone in Washtenaw county, the health department often gives out free masks and tests and posts events for other organizations doing similar work @WashtenawC3 might have a mask bank, and this event is happening tomorrow

UM community: Please consider signing and sharing this open letter in support of a UM student experiencing racism and ableism in the Econ department. This student has endured particular hardships related to COVID-19, and was not properly supported.

“Because I live with a high risk individual, I chose to take my fellowship a year earlier (even though I didn't want to), just so I could avoid teaching..."
@DrRobErnst @UMichPrezOno #COVID is disruptive to educational and professional experience. @UMich must address this.
