The WIAA Board of Control approved limited use of the shot clock in basketball in 2026-27 and acted on other recommendations from the Winter Coaches Advisory Committees affecting season regulations and membership policies at its June meeting.

Girlsโ Individual Regionals and Sectionals will be moved ahead by one week, Feb. 5 and 12, respectively.
Girlsโ Team Tournament Procedures:
โ 64 schools will participate in the team tournament program, the top 2 teams from Individual Regionals will advance to the Team Sectional, taking place on Feb. 19
โ Sectional seeds will be based on the state team seeding formula and will use the teamโs Individual Regional lineup.
โย Schools winning sectional team championships will participate in the State Team Tournament on Friday & Saturday, March 5-6. (Vote 11-0) ๐คผ #wiaawr

If the game remains tied after the first overtime period, the ice will be resurfaced, followed by a 17-minute sudden-victory overtime period. If the game is still tied after the second overtime period, teams will take a three-minute rest, the ice will be resurfaced again.๐(VOTE: 11-0) #wiaahockey

To adopt a new basketball tournament divisional model for implementation beginning with the 2027โ28 season, which would adjust the divisional cutlines used to assign schools to tournament divisions. (VOTE 11-0)๐ #wiaagb#wiaabb
A boys and girls basketball tournament expansion plan for 2028-29 that would have qualified 8 teams in each of the 5 divisions and held quarterfinals on the Wednesday of the respective tournaments at various college sites around the Green Bay/Madison area, failed.ย ๐ #wiaagb #wiaabb

Removing tournament procedure language that previously did not allow a member school that appeared at the State Tournament will not be placed in a smaller division the following year, even if a decline in enrollment would normally place them in the lower division. (Vote 11-0) ๐ #wiaagb #wiaabb

The Board of Control approved the implementation of a 35-second shot clock for boys and girls varsity basketball, beginning with the 2028-29 season. (Vote 10-1)
This will now go to a full membership vote at the 2027 Annual Meeting for final approval prior to implementation, due to the cost imposed on member schools. ๐ #wiaagb #wiaabb
