Met รireann has issued a high-temperature warning ahead of an expected mini-heatwave with sustained temperature highs of 24ยฐC and above this week.
Wicklow County Council and Wicklow Mountains National Park are urging everyone to prioritise fire safety, as dry grass and gorse are highly flammable. Itโs essential to help minimise the risk of wildfires by refraining from lighting any fires or barbecues in public grass or wooded areas outdoors this weekend.
Fires on the hills or in our forests can quickly get out of control at this time of year, causing damage to property and destroying habitat for nesting birds.
Wicklowโs Fire Services, Civil Defence and staff from the NPWS and Coillte are at the forefront in responses to fires that get out of control. Help keep them safe by ensuring no fire gets started in our uplands.
Avoid lighting fires and be cautious with reflective objects in the sun.
Stay safe!

Statement from Wicklow County Council
Thursday, 26th February 2026
Sections of the Cliff Walk are facing imminent collapse, and the public is advised against using the path. This warning was reinforced by Wicklow County Council and RPS Consultants Ltd during a meeting of the Bray to Greystones Cliff Walk Management Committee held on 25th February, 2026.
The Committee received a presentation from RPS Consultants Ltd which highlighted the recent reports of further landsliding and regression on the Greystones side, posing significant safety risks despite barriers meant to restrict access to those who continue to use the path. Cracks developing in the pathway show that this is in imminent danger of collapse and is a significant safety concern.
The Committee agreed to communicate this safety message and noted that that recent legal advice received gives Wicklow County Council no option but to prohibit access and to keep the walk closed on public safety grounds.
Members also received a progress update on ongoing procurement of contractors to undertake detailed slope investigations and methodology required for the Bray side and discussed alternative interim engineering solutions to expedite the delivery of the project.
Wicklow County Council is in talks with affected landowners regarding potential rerouting on the Greystones side and is committed to proceeding with safety and environmental considerations in mind.
The Cliff Walk remains closed due to the significant safety concerns. An alternative route is available.

URGENT SAFETY MESSAGE โ BRAY TO GREYSTONES CLIFF WALK
As you are aware the Bray to Greystones Cliff Walk remains closed due to significant safety concerns.
To assess if further deterioration had occurred after recent severe weather events, RPS consultants carried out a visual inspection along the Cliff Walk path on the Greystones side.
Following this assessment RPS has identified further deterioration of the slopes. These slopes were previously assessed by RPS as having the highest risk of failure.
As it was not safe to access the sea cliffs, the likelihood that further unidentified instability is present within the sea cliffs cannot be discounted.
Please be aware that given the unstable nature of these features and their proximity to the path they represent a significant risk to the path and any persons using the path.
Wicklow County Council wishes to remind the public that the Bray to Greystones Cliff Walk remains closed due to these significant safety concerns.

๐ง Road Safety Reminder for Landowners
The @RSAIreland and County and City Management Association (CCMA) are urging landowners to cut roadside hedgerows by the end of this month if they pose a road safety hazard.
โ๏ธ Why it matters:
Overgrown hedges can:
โช๏ธ Force pedestrians and cyclists onto the road.
โช๏ธObstruct sightlines at junctions and bends.
โช๏ธHide road signs, especially on rural roads.
