“The fortunate position that I am in is that I am allowed to say things that are true even if they are unpopular or politically incorrect or likely to be howled down by some group or other.”
Douglas Murray (@DouglasKMurray)
Joburg’s collapse did not happen by accident. It collapsed because of the political choices voters made. On 4 November, you have a chance to reverse it. 🗳️🇿🇦
#BelieveInJoburg#Zille4Mayor
The ANC’s Finance Minister has issued a final notice of its intention to cut funding to the City of Joburg. On 4 November you have a chance to evict the crooks with your vote! 🗳️‼️
At some point South Africans should take stock:
"Where Are They Now?"
A report like this would look at the notable radical leftist journalists from the 1990s-2010s, and show us how they are living their best lives in London, Madrid, and Seattle the late 2020s.
Depending on the definition, maybe 3-5% of the US population is smart but seriously mentally unstable. That group heavily selects into politics, though. So maybe you're getting more like 10-15% among certain political types. That's enough to have a real influence on movements.
On PBS, David Brooks effectively identified what's going on with the Democratic Socialist wing of the Democrats (in an academic way, without objecting to it): the party's energy has shifted from the unions to the universities.
The TL;DR on 'freezing the rent' is that it
- Makes it so there's less housing available
- Increases the rent in unregulated units
- Pulls units off the rental market
- Lowers housing quality
- Reduces the rate of new construction
- Makes it harder for workers to get good jobs
I hate to say this but please hear me out. For decades, I have made a daily Herculean effort to warn people about the dangers facing the West. My goal was to ensure that any auto-corrective process meant to address the problems would be a peaceful one. I fear that this window has closed. Prepare for astounding violence. It may not come tomorrow, next week, next month, or next year. But it is coming. Save this post.
For the last 6 years, the woke left has essentially just been opportunistically shifting the focus of their Critical Social Justice movement to different heads of their ideological hydra.
From 2020-2022 the focus was CRT due to George Floyd.
From 2022-2025 the energy shifted to Queer Theory and Gender Studies due to a combination of catalyzing events: Lia Thomas, pediatric gender medicine, and red state backlash.
In 2023, the October 7th Hamas massacre and Israel's response caused the woke left to begin shifting focus to Postcolonial Theory, though I'd argue it didn't overtake the other issues until 2025.
We are now in the era of Postcolonial/Decolonization radicalism. It's main focus is destroying the West and all vestiges of it in every aspect of society. Some are now calling this "Third Worldism."
The election of Mandani and now other DSA members like Darializa Avila Chevalier, Claire Valdez, and others, is indicative. The rise of Hasan Piker is also emblematic of the postcolonial movement's momentum. AOC is and The Squad is fully on board.
The woke right is also, unfortunately, fueling this movement to a significant degree.
It's going to be a very tough road ahead given the fractured nature of the political right and the overall spinelessness of the center-left to stand up to their radical fringe.
All of these movements under the woke umbrella were detailed in Cynical Theories by Helen Pluckrose and @ConceptualJames back in 2020.
Now would be a good time to re-read it to brush up on Postcolonial Theory, because you'll be seeing much more of it moving forward.
Woke isn't dead; it is just laying dormant while it shifts focus. If you're not paying attention you will suffer severe whiplash in 2028 if Democrats win the presidency.
See the look on the Wiener guy's face? That's the realization that his Frankenstein ain't going back in the grave.
Every communist revolutionary thinks they'll have a seat at the table of power...in reality, they're always the first against the wall.
The kids who were radicalised and indoctrinated into Critical Theory at elite universities in the 2010s are now in their mid 30s.
And they’re starting to climb the ladder.
Zohran Mamdani as Mayor of New York is just the first of many, I fear.
The legacy of #schoolcapture
That's step 1 of the communist playbook.
Step 2 is to hit them with crushing fines and inspections they can’t possibly afford
Step 3 is confiscating their property and turning it into a government slum hellscape funded by the productive class
This is why you don’t give psychopathic movements an inch. They can never be appeased. Give in to one demand, and you become the target of endless struggle sessions designed to humiliate you into total ideological submission.
say what you want about the policy, which is extremely bad, but his presentation & communication skills are genuinely next level.
the ad is ironically warm (esp with the filter) while communicating a “freeze”, it’s also dead simple, emotionally precise, & incredibly effective.
terrible economics, excellent execution. credit where credit is due. but this is also pretty dangerous.
Step 1: Invent a new extra-bad category of crime, like "hate crime" or "terrorism", with extra-harsh punishments.
Step 2: Expand the definition of the new kind of crime to include anything, or anyone, that you want to punish extra harshly.
@lukerosiak The number of PhD theses written by AI is going to be staggering, especially for morons like this in fields where the standard thesis is already woke word salad.
It's crazy isn't it?
In 2024 Mettler suspended senior Tshwane officials for the Rooiwal mess https://t.co/iOaIXDf0qn
linked to that wonderful servant of the nation Edwin Sodi https://t.co/lnA2Ce3Eon
Now @Action4SA wants to kick Mettler out.
Go figure.
