The Indigenous leader Leonard Peltier returned home Tuesday after nearly 50 years behind bars, following a commutation of his life sentence to home confinement by President Joe Biden. @NickTilsen of @ndncollective was with Peltier and describes the scenes of "absolute pure joy."

For decades, Peltier, who is 80 years old, has maintained his innocence over the 1975 killing of two FBI agents in a shootout on the Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota.
Last month President Joseph Biden commuted Peltier's life sentence to serve the remainder of his time under house arrest.
